This review is from: Hstluft (Audio CD)
When listening to Library Tapes' "Höstluft" I was thoroughly entranced and my mind wondered to old memories of place and reflection ... looking through dusty photo albums, riding in train cars, early morning drives, laying down in the back of a car as a child.
The mechanical clicks and rhythmic hums of lo-fi field recordings mixed with the reverb bright piano have an interesting and pacifying effect that puts the audience in two different locations.
In the first, the listener can imagine being in the room beside the piano player, looking over his shoulder from behind the bench and eavesdropping into his interplay with thought and instrument. In this place, it is as if the memories and thoughts of the musician are directly connected to the strings of the piano.
Simultaneously, the listener is moved to the second place, transported to an old train car where the piano melodies soundtrack the sights outside the window.
This album is truly beautiful and absorbing, and presents an interesting interaction of melody and memory.
