This record is amazing. It makes me think, by turns, of Brian Wilson's Smile, early Cardigans, Fleetwood Mac (think Sara), Devendra Banhardt, and Sing Sing's first record. Full of melodious songs with an incredible pallete of sounds - acoustic guitars ringing, eletric ones buzzing, drums in fascinating rhythm, bass, horns, strings, piano, accordion, you name it and you might find it... Lafourcade has a delightful voice, sweet, warm, pretty, dark, fragile, strong. The record brims with great harmonies and inventive melodies as well. Lafourcade's songs are upbeat for the most part but have internal moments, elegiac alongside bouncey, the shift smooth and making perfect sense audially and emotionally. Hm. She sings most of her songs en Espanol, but if you don't understand, no matter, it'll impact you all the same. Do yourself a wonderful favor if you like offbeat but tuneful 'indie' music and get this!!!
A year before she put out Las 4 Estaciones del Amor, which sounds like this sans the pop/rock instrumentation, replaced by strings - a 4 long song suite and absolutely fantastic.

Pop Heaven,

"En el Dia de tu Cumpleaños sobre cobijas construia un arbol, sobre papeles dibujaba caminos que un dia cruzaria contigo.....Cursis Melodias cantare toda la semana para ti" Such sweet and heartfelt words...
I heard her say on an interview that this album is straight forward pop. Oh how short is she selling herself because with Hu Hu Hu Natalia enters Beach Boys and Beatles levels of greatness. Not that it sounds like any of the previous but the level of songwriting, musicianship, diversity of genres and creativity in the studio is of the highest caliber. Actually "4 Estaciones del Amor" demonstrated that she can literally do anything. Hu Hu Hu has an incredible pallet of sounds - acoustic guitars ringing, electric ones buzzing, drums in fascinating rhythm, bass, horns, strings, piano, accordion, you name it and you might find it. So to summarize her progress, she started with acoustic ballads and bossa nova her debut (Natalia Lafourcade), then a rock oriented album (Casa), then classical (4 Estaciones del Amor) and now pop heaven. Even if you do not speak Spanish make yourself a favor and get this album (actually there are 3 songs in English). I can not stretch it any further she is amazing.

This is one of my two new favorite new CDs. Most is in Spanish but that doesn;t matter.
If you know a little Spanish then you will understand at least part of the lyrics. Very different and engaging arrangements.

This singer is very original. I wish I had that creativity to play and create lyrics like her. She sings a lot like this other singer, Lily Allen I think. BUT Natalia was already playing way before Allen was known. It's really weird because the first time I heard Allen's sing, I thought it was Natalia singing on English. Anyway, this is a good CD. buy it people.

I just bacame aware of this wonderful artist about 18 hours ago, while switching channels on the television, and I came across a television show called, Estudio Billboard, by Vme [...], and even though I do not speak Spanish, I decided to stay with the program, because I like bosa nova songs, and girls who play guitars. I had to pop a tape in and record the last 20 min. and freeze frame to find out who this girl is. Then today I was listening to all the samples of her first two albums, and I am quite Smitten to say the least. I`ll have to get some of her works soon. Earlier today I played some of my Stan Getz bosa nova collection, and was thinking of her, and how vocals do make a difference. Any of her titles would be a nice addition to my collection. What a romantic language. I wish her the best with her newest release.
