Simply the Best,
By Robert Hide (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Huckster (Audio CD)
This album defies categorisation and defies convention. On the first listen it imprints itself on your subconcious: for days a snippet of melody haunts and satisfies, its source unknown until the CD is played again. In an almost supernaturally short time it insinuates itself into your top ten of all time, then top five and wedges itself there and grows in stature like a tumour until there is no escape. It becomes impossible to remember a time that you didn't have the album and didn't know the tunes. Nuff said, ignore at your peril....

Re-affirms your faith in pop music,
By Ruddiger (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Huckster (Audio CD)
In an age where the term 'pop music' too often conjours up connotations of cynically mass produced dross, Huckster is a much needed tonic. Their tunes remind you of what pop music should be all about: love, loss, longing - and kick ass shake your booty! I bought this CD on a recommendation from a friend and can't stop playing it. Go take a bite of the alsation before it takes a bite out of you.

Real Brit Pop,
By Modern Life Is Rubbish (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Huckster (Audio CD)
Britpop's been a bit of a dirty word since the mid 90s, thanks to the retro by numbers and wannabe Black Crowes of Oasis and Stereophonics. This was enough even to forget that! Huckster were reminiscent of the real high points of my favourite British pop music. The Kinks, Bowie, The Smiths, The Specials, Pet Shop Boys and Blur. In fact, much of this album reminds me of The Beatles before they'd taken too much of the brown acid, or if Radiohead before they decided tunes were expendable. Not that any of it is derivative. It's as electro as it is rock. As clever and intricate as it is instant and catchy. But, hey, that's good pop music I guess. And that's what this is: Good pop music. Real Brit pop. Highly recommended.
