5.0 out of 5 stars Transcendental - you gotta try it., May 31, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Huey Fong Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (17oz) (Misc.)
I'm a bit of spice hound and have flirted with other hot sauces before, but nothing has ever seized hold of me like Sriracha. An old Greenwich Village burger joint near where I worked at NYU used to serve it on the tables with popcorn and the combo was killer. The memory haunted me for years before I finally picked up a bottle. I shouldn't have waited. This stuff is amazingly addictive with a garlicky sweet hot yumminess that's hard to describe. It sits on my table in front of the salt and pepper and I've drained a bottle in a 3 month period. Incredible on eggs, superb on burritos, utterly transforms dull dietetic chicken vegetable dishes from the Chinese restaurant. I put a squirt in the health low-sodium soups instead of more salt and all of a sudden all the flavors perk up. Utterly highest recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars liquid fire, February 26, 2008
This review is from: Huey Fong Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (17oz) (Misc.)
Got mine earlier today! If you like tasty and hot, you'll love Huy Fong's sriracha hot chili sauce. Great for opening frozen doors, or melting lead. I now know what the Earth's core tastes like!

Jokes aside, this stuff is tasty and hot...and I like tasty and hot. I used it on pizza this evening, and it was just what I wanted! No more tabasco- the new king of flavor is Huy Fong's Sriracha hot chili sauce.
It's thick, not watery like tabasco, so you can squeeze just the right amount out of the bottle.

I can see already, that this is going to be great on virtually anything- potatoes, soups, salads, and of course, chili.
This is a must try product. Hot, yet very flavorful. Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bomb of Chili Sauces, September 29, 2007
This review is from: Huey Fong Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (17oz) (Misc.)
Wow! This is the bomb of all chili sauces. It is wicked hot and has a great flavor. The chili sauce flavor is tinged with the garlic and vinegar and it's just fabulous to jack up soups to a spicy fiery hot treat. I haven't tasted a chili sauce this good before, as most have no real flavor beyond the heat. This stuff is flavorful and spicy. Love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Should be in Every Kitchen - better than Tabasco but to be candid there is NOT a stunning difference between the two, March 2, 2010
This review is from: Huey Fong Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (17oz) (Misc.)
A potent hot sauce with interesting flavor notes. Not quite as hot as Tabasco (yet very close), on a drop by drop basis. Nevertheless it is quite hot even when used in very small quantities. This is NOT a watered down hot sauce like Franks, etc.

While Tabasco seems to impart mostly heat along with a slight vinegar note - this product has more subtle tastes going on beyond the heat (such as sugar and garlic), yet the heat is considerable and it is this heat which dominates.

I doubt many households will go through a bottle in a year. As I said: this stuff is potent.

I wanted to say in my review that this sauce had a hint of tomato yet there are no tomatoes listed on the ingredients. I suspect what I thought was tomato is simply the sun ripened chilies and the added sugar listed on the ingredients. But to be clear - heat - lingering heat - is the primary taste

I like this product and I'd definitely recommend its purchase but I'm not sure it rates 5 stars! The overall flavor does not strike me as exceptional or in any way perfectly balanced. There really is just one major taste - heat - and then a vague hint of something else which seems to be sugar and garlic. But to be perfectly clear - it is better than Tabasco but the difference is subtle. I prefer the garlic and sugar of this product to Tabasco's vinegar notes. Yet keep in mind this is nothing more than a hot sauce and it will NOT magically transform any dish.

For the $5.99 I paid locally for a 28 Oz bottle --- I'm glad to have it on hand.

Given the potency - I would NOT buy this product in bulk. One bottle will last many months

Update (July 2010) - a formal taste test

I put 4 ounces of tomato juice into two glasses and progressively added 1/8 teaspoon of Tabasco or Huy Fong Sriracha into one of the two glasses until they both became too "hot" to taste

Results: With Tabasco - with each added dose the juice became not only hotter but harsher. With the Huy Fong - it became hotter yet retained a very fresh but sweeter note

Has an excellent flavor, and not extremely hot. Maybe a little less hot than a jalapeno pepper.
Goes great with anything that you would use Tabasco on.

this is the sauce that they have out for the customers at sakkio japan. i used to drown my chicken terriyaki in it. i started making my own version of their chicken terriyaki at home (i finally gave up trying to copy the sauce since it evidently can't be duplicated), but the heat was missing. i finally found this at the grocery store, and i use it whenever a recipe calls for a little ( or a lot) of heat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Delicious, August 3, 2011

This is absolutely one of the tastiest hot sauces I have ever tried. It has intense heat but not the burn like many others. My family loves it and they have asked that I don't try any others as I have found "the one". This will be a staple in my pantry for years to come. Well done!

You see this hot sauce very popular at most oriental restaurants. Not only because of the low price but because of its terrific flavor. You get 17oz (compare that with the skinny tabasco bottle) of hot spice that will last for a very long time. Great especially for soup lovers who want to spike it up a notch. Also good with your pizzas, burritos, nachos, ... and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome seasoning, September 19, 2007

This review is from: Huey Fong Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (17oz) (Misc.)
I love this stuff. We have been die hard fans of Tabasco Chipotle sauce, but not the price.

We had seen Emeril and Bobby Flay using the Sriracha sauce on their shows, so we knew it had to be good, and it did not disappoint.

As the previous reviewer said, it is spicy, sweet and a great garlic flavor.

We use it for lots of things. One of our favorites is to make ranch dip and kick it up a few notches with Sriracha sauce.

It IS hot, so start out with just a little bit, until you have adjusted your tastebuds.

I like stuff spicier than my husband and father, and one of our daughters hates anything hot at all, whereas the other is like me and could drink Texas Pete straight from the bottle. Sriracha can be added to each person's taste.

I've even tried it on ice cream! (NO, I am not pregnant! I just like the flavor it adds.
