the first 25 were great,

This review is from: Huey Lewis & The News - Live at 25 (DVD)
Here's hoping that there will be 25 more to follow. Of course the time between new material has stretched over the past decade, and as fans we might be lucky to get one more full album of new material from this band before they hang it up.
In the meantime, here's a great way to celebrate what we already know to be a super band. Sure there are songs I would love to have seen make this release (Couple Days Off, Rythm Ranch (though it is in the bonus section), Change of Heart, and anything from hard at play) but what is here is enough to satisfy any fan. And any passer by who happens to pick this up as a nostalgia item. I am sure those who think the band ended around 1988 will be surprised at how they get pulled into the new sound and new songs. And here's hoping they go out and buy Plan B and discover where this band is now. They are a rootsy rock band, who know how to play a live show. While most acts of their day have either faded or have resorted to gimick tours (Bryan Adams and Def Leppard anyone?), Huey and the boys are still packing 10,000 seat amphitheatres every summer, playing to around half a million or more fans each year. And since bands make their real living on the road, this bodes well for the boys hanging around for a while to come. This show is them at their best, playing tight arrangements and enjoying themselves as much as (if not more than) the crowd who loves them The produciton is first class, and the extras are nice. Here's hoping that this release inspires a new round of songs, that we will get on a new album in the next year or two. A nice bonus is the song YOUR LOVE IS KILLING ME, a song they have had in their songbook for about 10 years, but have played only a few times. It was left off the Plan B album, but an instrumental version appears over the menus of the DVD when you load it. Lets hope that song turns up in full form again soon. As well, let's hope we hear some hot new tunes this summer. The heart of rock and roll is still beating and will continue to as long as this band keeps on rocking. Long live the good news!

This review is from: Huey Lewis & The News - Live at 25 (DVD)
I have just watched this DVD from start to finish for the first time, and I've got to say it is everything I expected it to be! Huey and the boys are honest, working musicians who love playing good time rock and roll - and they love it as much after 25 years as they did back in the Uncle Charlies bar-band days!
The sound quality is excellent - Bill's bass drum and John Pierce's faultless basslines are the perfect foundation for the rest of the band to build on. A key element to Huey and the News's sound over the years has been the brass section, and this DVD is no exception. They totally nail every song, and look like they are having fun in the process! Huey's distinctive vocals sound as good, if not better than they did back in his 80s heyday. Great visual quality (recorded in HD), and the stereo sound is fantastic - I only wish I had a 5.1 system to get the full experience! Buy this DVD, and enjoy a decent, honest live show!

The Heart of Rock & Roll is Still Beating!,

This review is from: Huey Lewis & The News - Live at 25 (DVD)
This is a terrific DVD of Huey and the News in concert. They perform many of their best songs on this DVD and each and every song is a killer. This DVD should be required viewing for any one starting a rock & roll band. They inject passion, energy, soul, and love into each song. I've been a Huey Lewis fan since his days with Clover, the band that preceeded the News and his voice and harp playing are as strong as ever. The new guitarist does not detract from the performance, as some have suggested, his playing is as strong and soulful as on the original recordings. Yes, the heart of rock & roll is still beating.

Even though "Live At 25" has not been released, I was at the taping for this monumental event. I'm sure "Live At 25" will exceed all expectations of Huey Lewis & The News fans from around the world. I was front row and center for the best show that I've seen Huey & The News ever perform. The band played a lot of their hits and then some. Here's to 25 more years of great rock and soul music!!!!

great live concert,
This review is from: Huey Lewis & The News - Live at 25 (DVD)
really enjoyed this concert. audio quality is great, would ideally liked to see the bass mixed through the center sp[eaker though as the bass player is great (nothing flashy, just solid as)
This is a concert that I was happy to watch the whole way through without feeling like skipping slow tracks etc. Great big band sound. I am new to Huey Lewis music so I can't really say how this stacks up against his old stuff - in my opinion it is worth having regardless though, as it is a well produced concert of great music.

Good...But Not The Best.....,

This review is from: Huey Lewis & The News - Live at 25 (DVD)
First off.....I've been a huge Huey fan since they came out in the early 80s. The music on this dvd concert is terrific...all the original guys, Bill Gibson, Sean Hopper, Johnny Colla can still play their butts off. Special nod to Huey for keeping himself in great shape after all these years. As a musician I can tell that Huey has lost a few notes in his range and is caught reaching several times during this concert. Most singers lose some range as they get older...it's no big deal. I just wouldn't show this concert to someone as their first Huey experience. Anyone who saw Huey and the boys back in the 80's will understand what I'm talking about. Even the Four Chords cd and video would be a better place to start...even has many of the same songs and cover tunes.
I'll always dig Huey but he's definitely not the singer he was in the early days....still plays a mean harp though!

Buy the dvd and cd ,you won't be disappointed! The band sounds great as ever even with a different bass and guitar player. The horn section adds in giving the band a rich sound. Most songs are off previous albums with a few newer ones,{So Little Kindness} a favorite for sure. There are also a few acapella songs included. The good news is.........waiting for you.

I don't even know why I bought this video?
I've never seen Huey live (nor interested in seeing him live) and once owned the Sports album. But somehow I purchased this video and I'm glad I did. This DVD smokes! Camera work, sound, band, lighting, everything was 100%. I've written many reviews on this site in which I've benn very hard on some of my favorite band but Huey has earned a place in my heart. Initally I though Huey was a little shaky for the first four songs but after a half dozen times of watching I was wrong. I recommend this video for everyone. Might be the first time I've ever done so??? Hands down, a great video.

What a great concert! If you dig Huey Lewis and the News, you will love this DVD! This is one of those in your face concerts set in a small venue. They crank out all of their classic hits along with some sleepers that were awesome as well. They are known for a little acapella work in their shows and they did not dissapoint. From beginnning to end this show rocked the house. It is a must have for any fan. Enjoy the show!
