4.0 out of 5 stars Not easy to put together/Doesn't shift smoothly
First these things are not easy to put together yourself. Especially the brakes. YOu have to adjust over and over. The bike is sturdy and will fit a child carrier on the back. It didn't come with the pouch behind the seat like pictured, but that doesn't affect the bike itself. It just would have been nice to have and was expected. I give it a 4 out of 5 because the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks can be deceiving!!
The bike does look nice and adds a sense of fashion while riding, due to the colors and designs. However, just 24 hours after assemblying this bike. Everything fell apart. The chain slipped and the handle bar broke in two pieces. Can you believe that? I was just about to return this bike for another, when I realized that I live next door to a repairman.

It didn't come with the pouch behind the seat like pictured, but that doesn't affect the bike itself. It just would have been nice to have and was expected. I give it a 4 out of 5 because the directions were not the easist to read and some of the pictures didn't have the same parts the bike has. But it is a good dependable bike if you get someone else to put it together for you. The best part is, it has a steel frame, which means it is less likely to bend under pressure.

The bike was fixed for an additional amount of $50 (friends discount). Generally, it would have cost $75 to repair.

If you read this message...just be careful. The price of the product can sometimes lure buyers, but we must realize that the cheaper products sometimes will cost us more in the long run. I gave it 3 stars because of the style, the fast shipping, and how the bike now rides that is now working as it should.

1.0 out of 5 stars Huffy Bike, June 24, 2009
This review is from: Huffy Alpine Women's 26-Inch Mountain Bike (Sports)
This product broke within two rides. Obviously, it's a cheap bicycle, so you shouldn't expect to be getting more than what you pay for, but I bought this bike thinking it would at least last a year or two, and it fell apart. The damage was irreparable as it was to a part of the bike that had come pre-assembled and was inaccessable. If I had wanted to spend more than the bike was worth taking it to a bike shop, I probably could have had it fixed, but I didn't deem it worth it. Honestly, if you are considering buying this bike, spring the extra $50 and go for the next one up. Purchasing this bike would be a waste of time, as you would have to return it within a week.

1.0 out of 5 stars Huffy dropped the ball, April 30, 2009
This review is from: Huffy Alpine Women's 26-Inch Mountain Bike (Sports)
First of all, great service from Amazon! Fast shipping, great customer service on the return.

Huffy really dropped the ball on this. I purchased this bike as a b-day gift for my wife. We got it in and started to piece it together, and everything was going well until we got to the last part which was the handle bars. The piece is supposed to slide easily down into the bike frame, but did not fit at all. I took it to a local bike shop assuming I was doing something wrong, but they told me it was a defective frame. This kind of thing should be caught by the QA department at Huffy. These kind of mistakes are inexcusable. It's pure laziness on the part of the manufacturer. I expected more from Huffy and am deeply dissapointed. I will not be buying from them in the future. I will pay extra money for a good quality bike like a Diamondback from now on. I would not recommend this bike to anyone.

I bought this bike for my oldest daughter and it has really been standing up to the rough terrain on our rural farm area. We've had this bike over 3 years and it's going strong.

1.0 out of 5 stars Best Advice: Do Not Buy, August 30, 2010
This review is from: Huffy Alpine Women's 26-Inch Mountain Bike (Sports)
I bought my Huffy in May. Last night I left it out for the garbage man. You name it: Gears, brakes, tire pressure, seat slipping, it was a nightmare. I bought it from Academy Outdoors--these guys will not support anything.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for, November 29, 2009

My husband and I purchased Huffy Alpine bikes. We went into this knowing that you don't get the best quality for $99 but we were unsure if we would actually put the bikes to use.

Each bike weighs almost 45 lbs and you can certainly feel the weight when climbing hills. The shock is very soft with no adjustments, so it tends to bottom out. You will probably be better off with the Huffy that does not have a shock.

Finding gears that work is an art on a Huffy. A few gears work, others slip and some will not work at all. My husband's bike is the same way even after tuning. Find the gears that work and stick with them. On a plus, we have ridden the bikes for a lot over the last two years and they are still going.

If you are planning to ride on mostly flat surfaces and are very limited on funds you may want to give Huffy a chance. Otherwise, you should buy a bike with better components and weighs less. One thing is for sure. You will get into shape riding a Huffy. We were riding them about 20 miles and when we upgraded to new bikes that 20 miles was nothing. We could easily ride 100 because of the great exercise we got on the Huffys.

If you can pay around $400, go to a bike shop and be fitted to a bike that will work for your needs.

1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: PIECE OF JUNK!!!!!!, October 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Huffy Alpine Women's 26-Inch Mountain Bike (Sports)
This was the absolutely worst bicycle I have ever owned in my entire life! The first time I took it out for a test ride,(which mind you this was very even, no hills, terrain) it broke down about a mile into the cut short jaunt. I was only shifting gears when the chain binded up around the tension sprocket causing it to be pulled up into the spokes of the back wheel, I'm pretty sure that's never supposed to happen, long story short I had to WALK my brand new bike back to the car, needless to say, I'm sending it back never again to buy another cheap Huffy Mountain bike. God forbid you ever take it up in the hills!

This bike is sturdy, and a nice ride. I really enjoy it. I bought mine at Meijer where it was already installed and it has a one year warranty.
