Bought this bike for our grandson for Christmas. This is his first bike with no training wheels and is a "big boys" bike. He is five years old. After reading several other reviews on 20" bikes I was a little concerned about shipping and the condition that it wold arrive in. My experience was excellent. It arrived in perfect condition and for the most part was assembled. I had to put on the handle bars, the seat, the reflectors and the peddles. It was quick and easy. The bike is sturdy and well made, will withstand a five year old with no problem. One of my concerns was braking, this bike has the conventional pedal brakes as will as the handle-bar grip brakes----an added safety feature for small kids. Anyway, on Christmas day he got his bike and was off and riding it in no time (after some running behind him for balance assist). He is all on his own now and enjoying it a lot except for just a couple of spills.
Arrived in perfect condition.
Easy to assemble.
Sturdy construction.
Looks sharp.
Dual mode brakes.
A good price.
Hope this helps if you had any reservations.

5.0 out of 5 stars For those with reservations... Take a Second Look, August 10, 2010

This review is from: Huffy Rock Out AMP Bike, Black/White, 20-Inch (Sports)
I purchased this Huffy "Rock Out AMP" Bike for my son's 7th birthday. Before buying, I read ALL of the reviews posted here, and I have to admit... I had my concerns. Some people seemed to have serious problems with damaged or incorrect parts, and worse yet; some reviewers stated they had encountered problems with Huffy's customer service when attempting to rectify their situations.

Well, despite the negative comments, there were also a few good ones. In its defense, this bike offered a lot of cool features - which I will explain below. So, I took a deep breath and clicked `Add to Cart'.(The competitive price, along with the availability of Amazon's "Free Super Saver Shipping" really persuaded me to give it a chance. That, along with the fact that my son chose it from Amazon's HUGE selection of bikes was what ultimately persuaded me to `take the plunge'& buy this bike.)

Let me tell you, we are EXTREMELY pleased with this Rockin' bicycle! It arrived within 8 days of placing my order online (that's counting weekend days). Bearing in mind the size of the box and taking into consideration that the shipping was free, I was pleasantly surprised. Straight out of the box, there IS a bit of assembly required. However, it isn't anything that requires great skills or a massive tool collection. I managed with pliers, an adjustable wrench & an Allen key. It took my 7 year old and I about ½ an hour (with me bumbling around and adjusting my glasses to read the instructions.) All of the required parts were right there, wrapped and separated for easy assembly. Everything went together correctly -we had no missing or damaged pieces.

Now, for the good part! We took it out as soon as it was put together. This is my son's first bike without training wheels, so it had a lot to live up to. As a parent, I can tell you... there are a lot of neat extras that come with this bike! It offers a double breaking system (with left & right hand breaks AND foot breaking when you crank the pedals backward). The bike has removable padding on the front handlebars and a handy little pouch in front. Another surprising feature is that it comes with a little amplifier - where you can hook up your mp3 player so the rider can listen to music. It even came with a post-card where you can send away for 10 free music downloads! I didn't expect it, but sure enough, less than 10 days after I mailed in the postcard, I received my gift card for the free downloads.

The only thing that was NOT exact - was the actual coloring of the bike itself! The one in the picture that's listed on Amazon's website shows the body as being an orangey reddish color. The bike we received is totally black and white, with a few splashes of crimson red in the graphics. Actually, I think the black and white looks SHARP and I really do prefer it to the orangey color. So all in all, I cannot sing this bike's praises enough! It has already been "crash-tested" and everything. It is sturdy, everything works like a charm, and it has a few nice surprises to boot. Well worth the under $70.00 that I paid. Well worth the few days of waiting for delivery. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!

I purchased this bike as a Christmas present for my son. It arrived several weeks before Christmas and I checked the contents of the box. Several of the items in the box were damaged. I contacted Huffy customer service. They told me not to return the bike, they would send replacement parts. I told them I needed the parts before Christmas and was told that it would be no problem. I contacted them again during the holiday week and they were closed. Third contact the first week of January, they did not have a record of my request but would send the parts immediately. It is now January 26th and the parts have not yet arrived. I am glad I did not show my son the bike he was waiting for and left it in the box. Since the parts have not arrived I am returning the bike before the January 31st deadline.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible bike, worse customer service, January 29, 2010

We bought this bike for my son's birthday. It arrived the day before his birthday with an incorrect front wheel. The front wheel was clearly for another model of bike and wouldn't fit into the front fork.

I called customer service twice. The first rep said to just bend the front fork out so the wheel would fit. The second rep said to just return the bike. None of them seemed to care about disappointing a little boy on his birthday. End result is the bike is going back to Amazon and I bought a different bike (NOT a Huffy) at Toys-R-Us.

I'll never buy or recommend a Huffy again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective, at best., December 31, 2010

This review is from: Huffy Rock Out AMP Bike, Black/White, 20-Inch (Sports)
I received this bike quickly after ordering it. That is the only positive thing I have to say. I started trying to put it together and it was not simple. The brake cables were quite complicated. I had a friend help me, and even he was having a difficult time with it. Once it came time to put the front wheel on, we found that the frame was bent, preventing the front wheel from aligning property. Not to mention, there were some major cracks in the paint. It was not damaged during shipping, it was just poorly made. This is the first, and last, time I will ever order a bike online.

2.0 out of 5 stars Its a $60 Bike Nothing more, December 25, 2010

I read the reviews and many of the complaints were due to packaging--I agree. I rolled the dice on this one. The bike is the epitome of a $60 bike. Keep in mind its made in China, so craftsmanship is already substandard. The bike would have been easy to assemble, but the forks and handle bars were bent. I had to do some jury rigging, but after a few modifications I was able to get the bike to work.

With that said, my son will end up riding the heck out of it, so its going to take a beating anyway.
