A good attempt to give the fans their dream Seaview model!,
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Huge Seaview Submarine by Moebius Models (Toy)
Yes I'm a "Seaview" fan since I was a kid. It was good to see that someone finally got serious about making the worlds classiest submarine available for a reasonable price. Here is what I liked about it the most. (1)Nice and big! You can take it in the swimming pool and have a ball if you want. (2)The parts fit together to perfection. No warped or lopsided pieces that didn't fit. Like a laser cut version. (3)With a little time and patience you can paint it to a cool blue underwater color like it was seen in the TV show--plus add full lighting for more studio realistic fun like I did. Here are the Cons:
The model is made to accomodate both the 18 foot and 8 foot studio models. If you are a Seaview fan you know this was a no no! The fact is--the 18 and 8 foot studio models are completely different in design--particularly the bulkhead, fin curvature and window design. You cannot just switch the windows for the 8 foot design and presto it is now the 8 foot version. The Moebius version is specifically designed for the 18 foot studio version and the bordeless windows match that design and the model should have been left that way. Moebius tried to accomodate both designs and that was a no no!!! What should they have done? Made the 18 and the 8 footer studio replicas as 2 different models. I prefer the 8 foot 6" studio model over the 18 footer. The 8 footer was used for most of the underwater scenes for the TV show and the one I like the most. The other problem I encountered is the plastic (clear) windows. They are warped and further distort by making an objects seen through it appear smaller like a negative lens instead of a clear window. I had to make new clear designs using crystal clear plastic (glass is even better). This is necessary if you put control room lighting and want to see the interior details through the window. Finally putty filler and sanding is necessary to get rid of the bulkhead lines after the window section is glued and where the 2 pieces of the hull are joined. All in all--it's a decent attempt to give the public a timeless classic that still looks great today. In fact a sub that could actually be built and I might add--no one today in TV or motion picture could match the futuristic and artistic concept of the Seaview from that era. PS I hope the Flying Sub they are preparing to make is another cool replia! Kenn Wingle

Seaview Replica at last,
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

After waiting over 40 years we now have a proper if somewhat large replica of the submarine Seaview from Voyage to teh bottom of hte sea. The control room painting guide is strange, watch the show and it makes no match to at least the second season, but looks right on. You can see from the front window to the radio room. All the tweekiy bits are there and 6-seated crew and two standing officers make up the on-board crew. You get a Flying sub, can be placed in the hangar and removed if you like, mini-sub, and diving bell, as well as a offer for a remote diving kit, and video system to video tape your dives up to 15' deep and 300; away, sound to costly for me. The kit is pre, set for those who are tempted to light the sub, all the wiring routes are molded into the insides only the lighting kit is missing. The cost is high but so are all models today, the value is also very high, and if you are a fan of hte old show this is it. YOu can build either the 17' surface model or the 8 1/2' underwater model. I'm building the underwater one, just looks better and matches the drawings I own. The fit is good, only two joints needed putty so far and I have the hull together, ready to work on inside, cannot comment on fit of that, but lower half seem to fit nice and tight, could be snap fit to access batteries for lit version. Hint Hint. This is one of the best kits yet, highly recommend it to anyone with space, and over aa few kits built as interior will take some skill to paint, maybe decals for this would have helped younger modelers or older one for that matter. Company was Polar Lights before name change, Moebius from Forbidden Planet I like it.

Seaview Submarine Model by Moebus,
By
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Huge Seaview Submarine by Moebius Models (Toy)
This model is large enough to convert to a working Radio Controlled (RC) submarine model. There are kits provided at Caswell Inc. ([...]) that will help the model builder convert the very detailed Moebus model into the RC version. There are also internal and external LED lighting kits that can be added to this plastic model from Just and Illusion ([...]) to enhance this model. Some of the lights are compatible to be immersed into water, and can be added to the RC version. It take approx 80 hours to convert the plastic model into the working RC version add another 15 hours to equip the lights to the model. Depending on the paint details the assembler chooses, count of spending some time putting the seams and sanding before concealing all the model's glue joints. Saying that this is the best built plastic model I have ever seen! Joint are clearly defined and have been engineered to provide the most possible concealment. If you have any fond memories of the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea TV series, you will enjoy putting together this model, as I have.
