4.0 out of 5 stars Great toy for introducing child to travel & geography
My husband and I used this toy to introduce our 2 1/2 year old to the concept of my travelling to Australia and it worked a treat. Although the "globe" is large, the "squishy" factor made it easy for our son to catch the ball and the colourful mapping made it fun to show him where he lives in comparison to Australia. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great toy!
I wanted to get my son a globe, and this was perfect. The globe is quite detailed in labelling countries, states, etc, and I think he will get a couple of good years out of this. Wish it was stuffed a little bit more though, sometimes he uses it as a pillow and it gets flattened out easily.

Since world geography isn't necessarily taught very well in schools, I think this is a fantastic tool to introduce the concept of a 'world view' to children at a young age...and one that can be used for years to come!

I bought this for my 2-year-old son and he likes the bright colors of the ball a lot. But it is actually a toy for the whole family, we often sit down and study it. We found a few errors, but that was to be expected. My main criticism is that after a while it becomes lumpy and I don't think there is enough filler, so it's not really round.
But it's a fun educaional toy that would entertain your whole family!

In my first grade classroom we pass this around *every single morning. "What's going on in your world" Each student gets a chance to talk..it can be about anything!! I've been doing this for several years now. Such a valuable tool for rapport in the classroom~

This product is fantastic. I have been using it for years in my classroom. I ask a question and then toss the globe to the students who raise their hands. They answer and then toss back the globe. It gets students volunteering who normally wouldn't.
It does fade after say 5 years or so and gets a little nasty from all the dirty middle school hands, so I replace them every few years and get a fresh new one. It holds up very well and has never torn. It is awesome in my history classroom. A+

I have also seen it used in Sunday School and VBS to sing "He Has the Whole World in His Hands".

Naturally as a history and geography teacher I think starting education early is very important, and this product is great. I give these as baby gifts to everyone! It is very soft and squishy and a great huggable toy! Please get a Hugg-a-world and teach your children young, so I can stop answering the question in the eighth grade "Why are there two Pacific Oceans on the Map?" (yes im serious)

My son sleeps with Hugg a Planet every night and plays with his space toys all the time...he learned his continents before he was four and is now learning the countries in each. It's not flashy, but it is well worth the money if you have an imaginative and inquisitive child.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stitching not so great..., December 8, 2011

For the price and all the great reviews, I am surprised at the problematic stitching where the panels meet. They don't match up exactly. Not enough to send the globe back, but disappointing just the same.

I purchased this globe three months ago and it has stood up to lots of play! As a toy it has been sat on, slept on, hugged, tossed around and it still has retained it's original shape beautifully! The fabric is tough and well stitched. As for cleaning all I've had to do is spot clean with a wet cloth. My favorite aspects about this globe is of coarse the educational aspects! It is very detailed and accurate as far as I can tell. It has greatly helped in exposing my two preschoolers (ages 2 and 3) to their world. We keep the globe nearby while we're reading and whenever we read about an animal or a person from another part of the world I make sure to show them on the globe where they live in comparison to that animal or person. Also, whenever my husband travels I explain to the kids where we are compared to him. Recently my husband went to North Carolina and after showing them where they live compared to NC my son (age 3) was able to show me on his own where we were and where daddy was!
All things considered, this is really fun toy and an excellent teaching tool!

This toy is my absolute favorite and one I intend to give every child, from toddler to teen, on my Christmas list this year. It is durable and fun, and would be a great teaching tool for anyone. I purchased mine from Walker Books and it arrived in a timely manner, perfect condition. I highly recommend for anyone with children, teachers, and/or just for keeping around the house for conversation when company arrives.
