This is NOT a movie for adults! (duh?) It IS an excellent children's movie., July 6, 2006
This review is from: Hugga Bunch [VHS] (VHS Tape)
In response to the reviewers who rated this poorly because they didn't like it *as adults*, I would like to say: don't be an idiot, this movie is not INTENDED for adults, it is made for CHILDREN. I can remember watching this over and over as a child, and I loved it; as a grown-up, yes, it's a little annoying, but I have such fond memories of watching it as a child, and the overall message is still really sweet. And I can personally say that my own children love it.
The basic plotline is that the main character's grandmother is dying, and our little heroine wants to save her by making her young, so she travels through her mirror to the land of Hugga to steal these magic fruits from the evil queen. But ultimately the fruit won't save the beloved grandmother, and nothing can really make her young again, but we learn that LOVE can keep bonds strong even when a loved one is becoming more distant.
There is also a lovely twist at the end of the movie, in regards to the mean aunt who wants to put Grandma "out to pasture." :)
Definitely a must-see movie. This needs to come out on DVD!

Preschool Teacher's Pick, July 1, 2006
This review is from: Hugga Bunch [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If you're looking for a movie your young child will enjoy, this one is a CLASSIC. The "Emmy Award Winning" special effects are seriously dated by today's standards, still the underlying message is timeless. The film is curiously realistic, despite the imaginary venue. (Don't forget, a child's imagination is quite REAL!) Kids can relate to the "value of a hug," and they KNOW what it's like to feel powerless. Hence, the adventure through the looking glass wherein heart-inspired heroism is acted out. Trust me, there's far more to this production than meets the (adult) eye, even a point of wisdom made by the insane-and-beautiful queen, whose self-obsession -- and focus on the superficial -- is what MAKES her evil. The acting ranges from terrific to terrible, with some of the best performances turned in by the animated PUPPETS! (Warning: Don't confuse the live-action movie with the "animated stories.")

A must have for all children!!!, April 25, 2003
I watched this movie when I was about 5 years old and remember it now that I'm almost 21!! I haven't seen it in forever, but I remember me and all of my relatives playing for hours on end outside, using our imaginations, going through imaginary mirrors. If you want your children to pry themselves from their computers, nintendos, and tvs allow them to watch this movie and get their imaginations rolling!!!
