5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Blankets

After reading the reviews of this product and seeing the price, I wanted to try this blanket for myself. When I got it home, it was not what I expected. The weave was a bit loose (there were several large snags in it) and it was thinner than I had hoped. I would need to use another blanket folded up to provide support. Re cotton content- you can't go by the label. Many Mexican blanket producers low-ball the cotton percentage because its easier to clear customs - I wouldn't have known/believed this - but after several purchases, and several calls to vendors - I believe it now. Some of my nicest blankets have low/no cotton labels - but they're cotton.

Anyway - these were super.

4.0 out of 5 stars FYI, May 23, 2007

FYI, this blanket is 100% acrylic, not wool. The fabric content was not provided anywhere. This blanket works great in yoga class. As advertised, it provides the right support for poses.

After reading the reviews of this product and seeing the price, I wanted to try this blanket for myself. When I got it home, it was not what I expected. The weave was a bit loose (there were several large snags in it) and it was thinner than I had hoped. I would need to use another blanket folded up to provide support. Based on the picture, I was expecting something a bit more subdued with the colors. The one that I got was bright red and yellow - not exactly calming.

Overall, not a bad blanket and it will serve its purpose. If you need extra support, I suggest buying two. Just a warning to those who buy thinking it will look similar to the picture...it won't.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quality of the weave much poorer than picture shows, February 2, 2010

The quality of the weave was significantly poorer than the picture shows. I was expecting a dense tight weave that would be comfortable to hold restorative postures on, and what I received looks and feels uncomfortable and as if it would fall apart in less than a year.

I just started practicing yoga, so I wasn't sure what kind of blanket to get. My instructor said this was a perfect blanket and I have found it to be helpful during class.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply made, so disappointed!, November 20, 2010

I purchased one of these Hugger Mugger Mexican yoga blankets in a local store because they had a color I just LOVED. I'm a bit controlly about the colors - I want to choose my own to coordinate with my treatment room (I'm a Reiki practitioner and use these on my Reiki table).

I was pleased with how soft the blanket was and the colors were vivid and beautiful. I knew it was acrylic, and for some of my clients with allergies, that's a plus.

HOWEVER. Don't ever try to wash one of these things. The tag on the blanket says "hand wash". So I put it in my washing machine on *delicate* cycle, cold water. On just one wash, the pilling was so bad that it nearly clogged my lint filters. I knew I couldn't put it in the dryer, so I air dried it. Still, I now cannot use the blanket at all for my clients because it is pilling so badly that it sticks to other fabrics/clothing.

My recommendation would be to avoid these for professional use, where you need to launder your blankets, etc., frequently. I never even got to use it in my practice - it was destroyed from the first wash. Mind you, I have plenty of other Mexican yoga blankets - different brands, obviously - that stand up to machine wash cold/air dry just fine. Any blanket should.

Buyer beware! Don't get sucked in by the pretty colors like I did ;-)

Just started taking yoga at our company-offered class. All new props were purchased for this class and all items--8' straps, bolsters, blocks, mats, and blankets--were Hugger Mugger brand. The instructor said this brand was always good quality. For my home practice I also got this blanket. It is soft yet sturdy, has that broken-in look that I didn't mind throwing on the floor, and I can fold it just like in class. It washed up nice too. Kinda wanted to pick a color, but I received the black/gray one and I LOVE it. I never would have picked it but it really looks great! Also, when I purchased this same blanket mid September it was $24.99.

Great blanket, just like the ones I use to buy on the beach in Mexico.

3.0 out of 5 stars Yoga Blankets, October 18, 2008

It's okay. Really wanted a blanket made with cotton and wool fibers equally. I believe it's mostly made of polyester and some cotton. Difficult to find cotton and wool as 50/50 content as I've tried other vendors also.
