Everyone needs at LEAST one of these.,
This review is from: Hugger Mugger Yoga Brick (Misc.)
Two are best though. I thought I could get away without using any yoga props, so for a long time I resisted buying anything other than a mat. Once I started attending classes though, I learned the value of props and immediately turned to Hugger Mugger to do a little shopping.
The block can help in many ways (Hugger Mugger's site even has a page that shows you various ways to use their props, which is helpful if you don't attend class), the most notable being its ability to bring the floor UP to YOU. If you're like many people and have tight hamstrings, this is important! Being able to rest your hands on the block instead of just hanging there allows for better alignment and more comfort. I have found that few yoga DVDs show the use of blocks, or if they do, it's limited. Fortunately Yoga Journal's "Step By Step" series is an exception. The use of blocks is consistent in their DVDs, which I find very helpful. Even though I'm an intermediate practitioner, I still use blocks for different poses. If you plan on building a home practice, I recommend buying at least one block and working with it. I also recommend Yoga Journal's "Step By Step" series for everyone, beginner and experienced alike. |
