Product Description

What do a bumblebee, a bowl of alphabet soup, a skeleton key, and a bicycle pedaling frog have in common? They're graphic comrades in this unique game of skill and chance in which solving a "Mystery-Word" makes you a winner, not a detective. Gather together your friends and family, young and old. Play as partners or as singles. Those who insist on merely watching won't be onlookers for long. Now decide...are you out for blood in heated hard-nosed competition for the title...or are you simply interested in a barrel of laughs and an evening of fun? Everyone has a favorite game and in Huggermugger you'll play them all!

I come from a long line of gaming families. Long before video games, our families fought over certain game boards under the Christmas Tree in the 50's, 60's, & 70's. Huggermugger combines the best of many gaming genres -- Trivial Pursuit, word & puzzle games, spelling, rhyming -- all against a timer. There is stealth, strategy, and covert action. This game has it all. I have never played it with anyone that didn't enjoy it. My Harvard educated cousins MAKE their children play it because they insist that it is, in a fun way, to train for the S.A.T.

Why have they stopped making this game?!?! I've given many as gifts and now need more for those who ask for it!

I bought this game probably about 18 years ago. It was one of the first family games I ever purchased & we still have a blast playing it.

Growing up we didn't have a lot of money so we played a lot of word games: Unscramble words, List Rhyming Words, Find as many words in this word as you can etc. So when I found this game I was thrilled at the nostalgic value it brought me but as a family it also became a very educational game.

Basic Concept
There is a hidden word & by landing on the right location & answering the question correctly you get to look at a letter. When you know the word before someone else does you win.

Game Play
Move around the board, land on a symbol and answer a question related to that symbol.

There are four topics:
Spelling:
You have to spell the word. Usually this is a typical word but often misspelled due to something small.

Definition:
You have to decide the definition of a word. You get multiple choice here. Often less common words but with multiple choice not too difficult.

Scrambled Word:
This is where there will be a common six (I believe) letter word that is mixed up & you have to figure out what it is.

Hodge-Podge:
Hodge-Podge can be a few different things. It can be a famous quote you have to fill in the blank. It might be an acronym that you have to say what the letters stand for. It could be listing 10 - 12 words that rhyme with another word or 10 - 12 words that end or start with certain letters. Or it may be a long word that you have to find 10 - 12 little words using the letters in it.

Over all this is a really fun educational game.

This game was a gift when I was a child, and we thought it was crazy. Then we played it. Now its become, not only a staple in our house, but when guests come over they ask "Are we going to play Huggermugger??? Can we play?!" It's such a great game. I've read reviews (not on Amazon) and it is said that the game is too easy for most people. Yes, there are some easy questions, but there also are some difficult ones and some moderate ones. This makes it a great game for all levels. When we are doing questions, we sometimes have to skip them because its either WAY too hard for the person who has to answer, or its WAY too easy. We make that judgement as we play and the game is so much fun. I with they still made it because it is such a great game!!!

My family hasn't had this game in ages, and we were always talking about it but couldn't find it anywhere. I was so excited when this seller offered it at a reasonable price. If you have looked around this site, some prices are around $90 !!!! - - - - for a board game!!!!

This game is fun and you will learn quite a bit if you retain the information it contains. I say you should try this game if the price is right. Make sure you play with fellow gamers, because if you have to twist someone's arm to play games, they probably won't like this one. It can take a while.

I first played this game as a kid, about 15 years ago, and my family still plays it from time to time so many years later. It requires thinking and strategy, and a little but of luck. I have played it with many people and everyone seems to like it. This is an excellent game for people who like trivia, spelling, word games, vocabulary, etc. A must for any board game collection!
