This is the best pocket guide you can find. Everything you need to buy and drink (areas, producers, vintage, rating) is here. Dont expect to learn much from this book (although you can aslo learn a little), but it will guide you perfectly in stores during purchansing. The best thing is that it is updated every year and it says if your specific stored wine vintage is ready or not.

Very useful for when making dinner for guests and finding the corresponding wine as you have time to look for it. Less effective in restaurants as the maitre d'hotel usually knows whats good and you tend not to take the time to look into the book, or the restaurant might not have the wine you desire.
Never the less, for the pricetag, it is an advisable read and item to have

This is the 8th year I have purchased this annual guide and it has never let me down.
Thin enough to put in your suit pocket but informative enough to answer all your questions.

this is a very good guide as far as French wine goes; as for the rest, it seems to me that the author does not seem to know a lot . For other countries, in fact, the guide is quite confusing, in that entries are selected in a very random way: it may be that they are selected by brand, or region, or grape, or anything else, but the logic or the criteria used to select a specific item escapes to the reader!

The best Wine rating book in the world,

I have been buying these guides since they began. They tell you everything you need to know about any bottle of wine including which vintages to be drinking when. Especially great on the French wines but also excellent on the rest of the world. Vey complete data set. I have never disagreed with Johnson. A copy of this should always be with you. I would be even happier if there was an electronic version for iPad/iPhone/Kindle.

Having visited the Napa/ Sonoma area several times I am surprised at the good wineries that are left out every year.
