About the Author

Hugh Johnson's first book Wine was published in 1966 and established him as one of the foremost writers on the subject. He then went on to write a remarkable sequence of wine titles including The World Atlas of Wine, now in its sixth edition and co-authorized with Jancis Robinson. His annually updated Pocket Wine Book sells more than 400,000 copies each year throughout the world.



Stephen Brook is a highly regarded wine writer, with over thirty books to his credit. His Wines of California won the Glenfiddich and Veuve Clicquot awards, and Le Prix du Lonson Champagne, for best wine book of 2000.

Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
How very fortunate is the world to have Mr. Hugh Johnson to share with us his amazing knowledge of the vine. I am at a loss with out the information provided by this book. Reading it has allowed me to be an amateur sommelier, as if I have a personal assistant to guide and assist with food parings, greatly increasing my knowledge of the worlds wines.
Mr. Johnson has the advantage of being one of the world's greatest gardener, this explains how in touch he is with the grape and its harvest.
I purchase his annual pocket guide to wine, his world atlas of wine and read every article that he is involved in on the subject matter. If your do not know an appellation from a cru you will soon learn after reading this book. A perfect addition for the Oenophile and those who serve them.

This large and heavy book covers the wines made and the vinters who make these wines over the entire world. The book is written by Hugh Johnson and Steve Brook, the two most entertaining and informed wine writers writing today. If you like wine, you cannot go wrong with this book.
