This is the first full-length study of the politics of Hugh MacDiarmid, one of modern Scotland's major cultural figures. By examining those places in Scotland that inspired MacDiarmid's best poetry, Lyall shows how the poet's politics evolved from his interaction with the nation and how he sought to imagine a new Scottish future.
