This review is from: Hughes, Glenn - Live At The Robin 2: Wolverhampton 6th & 7th June 2009 (DVD)
Probably more than any other release, this wonderful DVD typifies what an utterly talented man Glenn Hughes is. Surrounded by a red hot backing band of Jeff Kollman (guitar) Anders Olinder (keyboards)and Steve Stevens (drums) Glenn is at his absolute peak. There are 2 concerts included on this DVD, the first night Glenn performs a set of his solo songs and the second night a set of all Trapeze material. And let me tell you this, the band is so good, that they pull off the Trapeze songs to perfection. This is breathtaking stuff. Any fan of funk rock will just love this. Glenn Hughes is quite literally a genius, and he and his band mates all put in absolutley superb performances.

Think I'm overdoing the superlatives?

I'm not. This is pure genius.

Track listing is as follows...

Both picture and sound quality are first rate. Couple of DVD extras, Visit To the Molineux Stadium (great if you are a Wolves fan!) and interview with Glenn and Trapeze's original manager, which is very informative and entertaining.

Could not recommend this more highly!

This review is from: Hughes, Glenn - Live At The Robin 2: Wolverhampton 6th & 7th June 2009 (DVD)
Well folks, it's all clear for me now. It is an official bootleg. So don't expect multi camera angles (the venue is a small club, anyway), lots of lights and lasers and choices of sound systems. It is a plain (four cameras at most, no lasers and no DTS or Dolby 5.1 surround sound) stereo display of Rock & Roll, mixed with the Funk Rock that only Papa G can deliver. You have to crank up the volume a bit, in order to get a full sound sensation. Very good image, though. The spirit of the band is amazing, they play every song with pleasure and raw power. Bonus interview is a deep look in what was all about dealing with a young fellow that achieved too much success in his tender age; just remember Glenn was born in 1952, so when he went to Deep Purple he was only 21! The two nights were vibrant and electric, showing everything these guys can do on a small stage but with great attitude! As for the delivery, this item arrived in perfect condition just in the first day (Dec 12th) of the estimate period, which is a good thing too!
