4.0 out of 5 stars Very good quality.
I had ordered and received another folding cane for twice the price of a Hugo from Magellan Travel. That one was not as advertised and poor quality. I sent it back, (had to do battle for a full refund and, three months later, I'm still waiting for confirmation), then found this Hugo on Amazon.

After reading so many positive reviews, I was horrified to see how poorly made this cane was. It took less than three days for the cane to break at the top joint. At the time it fell apart it was not even in use; it literally just fell apart in midair while in the street. My daughter only needs a cane sometimes, and if she had been using it at that moment, I shudder to...

I had ordered and received another folding cane for twice the price of a Hugo from Magellan Travel. That one was not as advertised and poor quality. I sent it back, (had to do battle for a full refund and, three months later, I'm still waiting for confirmation), then found this Hugo on Amazon.

This cane is a precision instrument; very well engineered and manufactured. I believe them when they say it's rated for 550 lbs, (now I can loosen my belt). The ability to adjust length has made this cane a perfect fit for me, and relieves painful stress to my shoulder and back. The Hugo comes with a very nice canvas like pouch, which is very handy if you're fortunate to only need it functional intermittently. I wasn't thrilled with the silver finish, but I've come to accept the reflective surface as a safety factor walking across intersections at night.

The one negative is the handle. It's a very hard wood, (not chipped crap like the one from Magellan). I suffer arthritis, weak ankles, periodically combined with a gout attack. During these episodes I'm very dependent on this support; I lean nearly all my weight on it. That's very hard on my hand. The handle is uncushioned, which is typical for this shape, and I should have considered that when ordering. I have not yet looked into alternate handles offered by Hugo, but I doubt they will offer cushioning. I think I'll just have to bear it.

I note Amazon is now offering this cane at 10% less than they charged me; story of my life. Anyway, I thought my purchase was more than reasonable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, adjustable and attractive, June 17, 2008

I have osteoarthritis in both knees, and this cane allows me to navigate stairs and ride the New York subway. What attracted me most to the HUGO Cane is that it's sturdy and adjustable. I'm 5'3-1/2" and able to adjust the height of the cane so that it's a perfect fit for me. I have one in black and silver and both are attractive. Note: HUGO's website has fashionable handles and replacement tips.

without a doubt the best cane for the price and I've been using canes since the early '90s. This cane is very strong (rated at 500 lbs.) but folds and stores quickly and easily if you are traveling, esp by plane.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hugo Cane is a great product -- wonderful for back problems, November 12, 2007
This review is from: Hugo Adjustable Folding Cane with Interchangeable?Sedona Black Handle, Silver (Health and Beauty)
I have spinal stenosis with neurological claudation of the legs. Two Hugo canes are strong enough and easy enough to control to enable me to do "Nordic walking", that is walking using the canes as if they were ski poles for Nordic (cross-country) skiing. They enable me to walk twice as fast and twice as far as before with better control and less pain. That's far more advantage than anyone could ever reasonably expect from an easily affordable cane.

(I like the way they support veterans too. Even though I didn't hear about their free cane program for WWII veterans until after it had expired and had to buy mine out-of-pocket, I think it was a great thing for them to do.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Cane - WAY TOO SHORT FOR 6"5", November 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hugo Adjustable Folding Cane with Interchangeable?Sedona Black Handle, Silver (Health and Beauty)
This folding cane seemed both sturdy and was very easy to fold out (it does most of the work for you). I liked the carrying case, and the quality of the shock absorbing tip. However, the description lists the cane as being usable for people up too 6"5', and that is simply not true. The cane is far too short to be used for anybody taller than 6 feet, really (that's just my opinion). In any case, I'm 6"5', and this cane was far to short for me to use.
Hope this helps.

There were days when I didn't need my cane, but would carry my old wood cane just incase I needed it later. If it turned out I didn't need it that day at all, I had to carry it around with me anyway. with the HUGO Folding cane I can carry it with me, folded in it's carrying pouch, incase I need it later. It is also one of the few that supports up to 550 lbs. I weigh 330 lbs. and feel secure with it. It also adjusts for your height. It breaks down for folding very easily. It comes with a securing band and a carrying pouch. you won't be dissapointed.

high quality, durable construction. i will use for dressy occassions. the one i already own is more portable, it folds easier and does not spread apart after folding. my wife uses a handicap scooter and stores the folded cane in the scooter basket, without spreading apart.

I have been using this cane for a few months now. It is very convenient for travel and is holding up well. I don't use a cane every day, but need one when traveling or planning on walking a lot. This cane has been very easy to carry (in a backpack)& use when I need it. I haven't had any stability issues. It stays adjusted where I set it and the pad has good grip on all surfaces that I have been on.
