I downloaded this and signed up for the free trial, because Netflix didn't offer everything I wanted to stream. The price is the same for either service, but Hulu is strictly streaming, so I thought they might offer more. They don't have as much content, and what they do have is interrupted by commercials. If I wanted commercials, I'd just watch TV. I really didn't care for it. Even though I had the free trial, I found myself not using this app. There just wasn't much I wanted to see, and the commercials bug me. If I had paid for it and still been interrupted by commercials, I would have been very unhappy. As it is, I cannot really complain, but I won't be purchasing a membership. I'll stick with Amazon Prime and Netflix, both of which offer more content without commercials for about the same money. Amazon Prime is a little cheaper--less than$7 a month, and offers more benefits than just streaming. For anyone restricted to a single service, I recommend that one. I'm not affiliated with Amazon in any way, but these reviews are supposed to help others trying to decide what to buy, and these are the three services I've tried.

For anyone who doesn't mind paying to stream commercials and who likes being restricted to old content and a few current shows, I'm sure Hulu will be acceptable.

Constant buffering problems. It's basically not functional. It's too bad because the programming selection is decent. I could even tolerate the ads. It says I have networking issues, but amazon prime and netflix are usually fine. Don't waste your money.

I first got into Hulu when it was website only. I did not have any broadcast television, so it was great to see some of the newer shows once again, even if they were a day late. It played well, streamed nicely with good quality picture and the ads were far and few between (although extremely redundant).

Then, as it got popular, some shows were getting longer windows, such as a week later than its air date. Not such a big deal.

Then more ads. Then more ads.

Soon they announced Hulu Plus. Yes, the pay service seemed inevitable as it became very popular. Free TV was a nice idea...once upon a time. So I signed up for the service. Let's see what we get:

Well, out of the gate, the best part was the ability to watch it on TV instead of my laptop, which is where I would rather watch anything. I watch Hulu through my Roku box which has a Hulu app as well. At least on the Roku, the navigation is probably one of the more cumbersome apps available. But, after using it for a time, there are so many things I dislike about Hulu that it really is a pointless service.

With Hulu Plus, you get TV shows the day after, rather than a week later. But this is not every show, only ones that studios choose, like House or Family Guy are two shows that I watch that I cannot watch a day later without Hulu Plus. The other things you get are back catalogs to current and older shows.

If you have seen recent ads for Hulu, they are promoting the fact that you can watch all of this great stuff on "more platforms than ever". This news should come with a big glaring asterisk! What it boils down to is this: You can watch all of it on your laptop. You CANNOT watch a lot of it anywhere else. Not on your TV, kindle, ipad, iphone, blackberry, wristwatch or anywhere else.

App fails to connect far more often than succeeds. Both Netflix and You Tube connect almost 100% of the time, Hulu plus returns unable to contact server 80+% of the time. Error is instant and without a retry option.

I knew that there was an additional cost for the Hulu+ service - I was expecting that. What bothers me is that after paying my extra $7.99/mo, "due to licensing agreements," many, many shows are not available on mobile devices. Of the 13 shows on my Hulu+ queue, only 2 are available on my Kindle Fire. Some may say that this is a problem with the service, not the app. But since the app is the service, Hulu+ won't get off the floor with me until they fix this.

I would gladly pay the $8 bucks a month if there were no ads. If I wanted to watch ads all night I'd watch regular Tv. That's why I watch shows on netflix..NO ADS!
wake up Hulu.

not free?
Thank you Kim for clearing up the one question that I had. How much will it really cost? Now that I know it will be $7.99 I will think about it.
One question for you, do you think it is worth getting for the Kindle Fire?

WHY do they repeat the SAME ads over and over?
Yes. I would like to say I don't have a problem watching ads for products and I don't mind advertising new shows. But I don't want to see another political ad. I don't want to be preached to about grocery store deserts and if Hulu shows me the ad again about becoming an environmental lawyer... Read More
