5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Contribution to French Music
I just bought this CD in Paris last week and I absolutely love it. It is one of the most beautiful collections of any kind of music I have ever heard. Each song is gorgeous in its own distinctive way. French is such a flowing language anyway, but Helene's voice and the musical rythmns and trills she adds are simply amazing! Her style is best described as French-pop-yoga...

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful, January 23, 2005
This review is from: Humaine (Audio CD)
I for one only became familiar with Helene Segara through the DVD if "Notre-Dame de Paris", a spectacular musical based off of Victor Hugo 's novel. Helene Segara performed as Esmeralda and she was simply excellent. I received the CD from a friend who has two copies and this was when I got into her music from a more solo-artist stand point.

She has a beautiful, beautiful voice. Regardless of whether you are a French expert or not, you will admit her voice is gorgeous. She can belt it out, sing softly, and has brilliant control. The music is sometimes sad, sometimes happy, but always worth listening to. Not one song on this CD is in poor quality. Personally, my favorite is her duet with Andrea Bocelli called "Vivo Per Lei" performed in Italian. It is simply amazing. Once you listen you will immediatly calm down from whatever is troubling you.

So if you love music, especially French music, and even if you don't I recommend this CD because it is really worth your money. Go for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars review of Humaine, October 19, 2003

I got the CD when I was in France this May, and it was just so good, even I only speak a little bit French.

I especially like the first track: Humanine. and the last two. She reminds me a bit of Sarah brightman, both of them are trying to explore a so called " cross over" form type of music.

You won't regret it!

I have had this cd for two days and I think I will wear it out. It is so beautiful. I don't speak French but the music flows and it is so relaxing. If you are a fan of Helene Segara get this music if you are unaware of her you won't be for long.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very special singer, August 19, 2011
This review is from: HUMAINE (Audio CD)
I don't speak French, not without the lack of trying, and you don't have to understand French or to go to France to enjoy French music. Ms. Helene Segara brings the atmosphere of the French culture to you in her CD Humaine. I've been listening to French music, off and on, for a good many years and this woman is a very special singer of pop, romance and various culture music. She's especially good in music that the French has written for other countries over the past and there's several on this album of Celtic and Asian cultures, along with her own songs. She has won several European Grammies, as they're called over here, one gold album, at least two feminine awards by the French, a trophy award and two World Music Awards. And you don't get World Music Awards outside the African, Latino and Asians countries too damn often, and she has two before she was thirty. Now she's forty and, like a bottle of well-aged French wine, she's nice and smooth and well worth the money they are asking for her CDs.
You don't have to understand French but here's two words for you anyway: Petite Vie. That's my favorite song on this album. It means "small existence" and she sings to someone who is grandeur than her in her eyes, one of her very beautiful and delicate love songs. She only says it once, the rest of the time she's saying, not petite "vee" but petite "fee", spelled fille, which could mean a small girl or a granddaughter, or both. Here's one more French word "oublie" a very common used word in French songs which means "forget" in some way or other. That's the last word of the song, and the way she's using it, the beautiful way she's singing it, I think she's saying, the person she's singing to, will not be forgotten. What do you think?

5.0 out of 5 stars Humaine, October 22, 2003

I bought this CD in France this summer, because I saw a TV ad and Hélène Ségara sounded a little like Natasha St-Pier, whom I really enjoy. The CD is outstanding. Hélène has a lovely voice with good range. Although I find the text of title track a little too navel-gazing, the rest of the album is thoroughly enjoyable. There are some really haunting songs ( especially tracks 7 and 10) where the music and text work particularly well together. Enjoy!
