Biography

From Daft Punk’s first single release in 1993, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter were hailed as a new breed of electronic music innovators. Following their seminal debut in 1997 (Homework), the band went on to release two more studio albums (Discovery-2001, Human After All-2005) and two live albums (Alive 1997, Alive 2007), winning them both critical and popular acclaim throughout… Read more in Amazon's Daft Punk Store

4.0 out of 5 stars A review of Human After All, March 21, 2005
This review is from: Human After All (Bonus CD) (Audio CD)
This is probably the best Daft Punk album. Homework and Discovery were good, but Discovery was a little cheesy and Homework was repetitive as hell. This album combines the two, with a bigger focus on guitars (think Aerodynamic). I'll do a track by track breakdown:

1) title track - catchy, with a cool guitar melody and electronic vocal melody. One of the best tracks. 9/10.
2) the prime time of your life - interesting! slower then most daft punk stuff, and it takes awhile to get going, but it's catchy and the noisiness is interesting. The end is like an acid rock freakout, too. 7/10.
3) robot rock - the most rock oriented song on human after all (hence the title). A catchy hard rock riff over a neat little synth melody. RO-BOT RAWK! It's mostly built off a sample, which loses brownie points with me, but it's catchy and the most accessible song on here. 8/10
4) steam machine - it's cool. the breathing noises and gritty acid synth give it an industrial-ish feel. It's a little repetitive, but most of these songs were made for club use (or at least that's how it sounds) so it's excusable. 7/10
5) make love - eh. nice little melody, but boring and extremely repetitive, worst track on here. Sounds like something you'd hear on the Weather Channel. 4/10.
6) the brainwasher - awesome! I would love to hear this in a club or something. Gritty acid synths and pounding techno beats make this one of the best tracks here. It's repetitive (like all the tracks here) but the buildup at the end makes it work. "I AM THE BRAIIIINWASHER!"
7) on off - just some random speech samples for 19 seconds. stupid.
8) television rules the nation - another guitar (or distorted acid synth) led track. One of the coolest drum beats on here, too. It's about a minute too long, but oh well. 8/10
9) technologic - the vocal here should be annoying, but in the context of the song, it's funny and catchy. Less repetitive then most of the album. The vocal-synth thing is awesome. 9/10
10) emotion - a very nice relaxing song. It works better then Make Love because the melody is uplifting and pretty instead of boring and stagnant. 9/10
