5.0 out of 5 stars One-of-a-kind must-have
This is one of the best mass-market human body books available on the market. DK (Dorling Kindersley) has published yet another marvelous eye-opening jewel. 3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the most part
This book was pretty good for the most part; however, I did find some errors in the anatomy (at gross and cellular level) and labels (duplicates and otherwise). There is a vast amount of information contained in it, but the artwork is not very consistent and most of it appears to be renders straight from the 3d program that was used.
There are many dynamic and...

This is one of the best mass-market human body books available on the market. DK (Dorling Kindersley) has published yet another marvelous eye-opening jewel. This book's 3D digital art and design is what separates it from other human body books. This hardbound book also contains a durable vinyl jacket (not paper jacket) and an interactive DVD.

Unlike the other previously-published DK Human Body books, like the pocket-sized blue-covered Human Body book, this book has 3 distinguishing features:

1) Amazing 3D computer-generated digital art, complemented with high-quality photographs. Some of the best features about this book are the amazing digital art, book design, and overall aesthetic impression.
2) Detailed, up-to-date extensive text that covers human anatomy, physiology, and diseases. The text is much more detailed and extensive than most other DK Human Body books. There are also a lot of "infoboxes" and some very helpful tables and charts.
3) An interactive DVD (for computers) containing computer-animated clips of the body. There are also anatomy atlases of the organ systems, which displays names of specific parts when the cursor is rolled over it.

Overall, this book is highly colorful with hundreds of astonishing 3D images. I highly recommend this book for people of all ages and education levels, and it is perfect as a coffee table book, educational resource, or reference. You will NOT regret buying this book, and considering that you are buying a high-quality book and DVD together for only about $20, The Human Body Book is actually quite a bargain!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Anatomy Book Ever, October 17, 2007

I've studied anatomy and physiology in college, and taught the basics for over 30 years, and this is the best resource I've ever laid my hands on. The information is concise and up to date, and the pictures and illustrations are incredibly detailed. I've learned something new on every page. I've just undergone bypass surgery on my heart and afterwards a plural effusion on my lungs. This book helped me understand my problems better than my doctor had. This is a superb book that I will use as a reference text after reading it word for word. DK you've done it again!

There are many dynamic and interesting views of the material covered, but that is set back by some of the textures on the models. It seems like a few extra months were needed for the book so that some finishing touches could be applied.
One thing that does irk me is that the nerves are green...
As a collector of anatomy, medical, histology, and biology books, I can recommend this book; but will stipulate that there are others that I definitely prefer.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFULLY Designed Book, December 2, 2009
This review is from: The Human Body Book (Book & DVD) (Hardcover)
I don't normally review books on Amazon, but, as a med student who also is interested in print design, this book blew me away with its graphics and style. Absolutely stunning visuals. Even if you couldn't read, this book would still blow your mind. The content is solid, going much more in depth than a typical young adult body book would, yet shying away from jumping into textbook territory. A very fun, and VERY educational book. If you have a budding young doctor or biologist in your family, this could be one of the best gifts you can get them.

I also just recently picked up The Brain Book done by the same people, and it is just as amazing as this one. Buy them both!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource, October 22, 2007
This review is from: The Human Body Book (Book & DVD) (Hardcover)
I love this book. I am a nursing student who took my anatomy classes several years ago and needed an anatomy book for reference and review. The visuals are outstanding and the text is concise and informative. The book is hardcover and even includes a DVD. I would have expected to pay more for it. It is well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Illustrated, July 19, 2008
This review is from: The Human Body Book (Book & DVD) (Hardcover)
I originally saw this book on one of the tables at Borders when it first came out a few months ago. I didn't purchase it then because the full price was around $40. Luckily, I checked Amazon and they had it one sale for around $23. It was a great price for a beautifully illustrated and informational book. The entirety is filled with maps, charts, and diagrams of the human body as you would likely find in a doctor's office. I've learned a lot from it, yet there were a couple mistake that were apparent, such as: a pie chart that was mislabeled in that 3 of the percentages were mixed up (a larger portion had a smaller amount, etc.). Other than that small mistake, it has been wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Look Inside Yourself!, August 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Human Body Book (Book & DVD) (Hardcover)
It took a total of 2 seconds to decide I needed to own this book while browsing the medical section at Barnes and Noble. The only problem is, I really didn't have $40 to spend on a book. So off I went to Amazon.

This book has some amazing high quality images. If you're as big of a nerd as I am, seeing a massive 2 page digital image of an axion, or a detailed look at muscle fiber is breath taking. While there are a few incorrect facts and a few mislabeled body parts (the inner ear bones come to mind) I've heard these were corrected on newer prints.

Even if you're not a nerd, the images are amazing and should grab the attention and fascination of anyone with an even passing curiosity about the human body. I hope DK continues to make books like this (I'm thinking a cellular biology book with this detail would be amazing!), and look forward to purchasing the Human Brain Book.

If you're on the fence about this book, go to your local book shop, take a quick look at the book, then come back and click 'Add to Cart'.

What an informative book about the human body. The content is great, but the pictures and decriptions make this book so very useful. A great book to teach kids about all the intricate parts of the human body.

We purchased this book for our thirteen year old grand daughter who is displaying an interest in becoming a Doctor. We were please with the content and presentation as were her parents. Delivery was prompt and shipment was received in excellent condition. The price was right!

I am a nursing student and I love studying anatomy and physiology. I found this book by accident last night at the book store and I LOVE IT. I couldn't wait to get up this morning to begin looking at it. If all my textbooks were this beautiful, I would keep them out all the time as coffee table books. In my opinion, this is a wonderful accompaniment to traditional anatomy textbooks. Enjoy.
