Life sciences are a fascinating field, and many children are entranced by the study of human anatomy - my six-year-old certainly is. However, the complex body systems, difficult to visualize positioning of organs within three-dimensions, and confusing terminology can make anatomy a difficult subject to master for children.

Rock `N Learn's Human Body DVD is designed to make the study of anatomy, and the reviewing of key facts easy and fun. Designed for children in grades four through eight focuses on exploring the main body systems: skeletal, nervous, muscular, circulatory, urinary, respiratory, digestive, and an overview of the five senses.

The main portion of the DVD "Science Station" follows Kevin as Marko the talking pencil helps him study and review key facts about the human body in preparation for a test. The computer-animated models of various body systems are an incredible improvement on the flat, 2-D diagrams up using. Finally, children can easily picture the workings of the inner ear. A great deal of basic anatomical detail is covered in this 30-minute segment.

A "Practice Test" segment works students through four questions of a multiple choice sample exam (five minutes in length). The DVD's characters reason through the questions aloud, providing a model for students to follow in their own thinking when facing standardized tests.

Along with a standard scene selection menu, a stand-alone of the "Alimentary Canal Song" which also appears in the main portion of the disc features words at the bottom of the screen. A bonus segment on the "Food Pyramid" is also included to provide basic information about a balanced diet. One of features I appreciated in the "Science Station" segment was an inclusion of health-related information and guidance there as well, expanding the versatility of this DVD beyond the realm of strict anatomy.

Concerned parents should note that no mentions of evolution or creation are mentioned - the DVD sticks to anatomical facts. The DVD also doesn't cover or mention the reproductive system. Unlike other Rock `N Learn titles, there isn't a strong emphasis on song in Human Body. The strength of this title is including spoken explanations, humor, and easy to understand visual models.

Most exciting however is how much children enjoy this DVD. Though my oldest is well below the age recommendation for this disc she repeatedly asks to watch it. That being said, the presentation isn't childish, it is animated, and includes talking pencils and a talking butterfly, but Kevin is always treated respectfully as an independent learner.

The Human Body is an excellent supplement to any introductory study of anatomy. If a child masters the facts presented on this disc they'll have a solid foundation of anatomical knowledge to build upon in more advanced courses of study.

We have all of the Rock n Learn science DVD's and my kids (ages 8-12) LOVE them all! Even though the younger kids were under the recommended age when we first ordered the Earth Science DVD, they learned an amazing amount. We anxiously awaited the release of the Human Body and it quickly became the favorite of the series. We're studying the human body in our homeschool and this DVD is the perfect supplement. My kids have memorized things that I know they never would have learned otherwise. The fun songs and interesting characters help the kids to enjoy learning and the information sticks. Even though they've memorized all of the important information, they enjoy watching the DVD, which is great reinforcement of the information. For those that are concerned, evolution vs. creation is not addressed at all. The information is strictly about the body systems, etc.

Intended for viewers in grades 4 through 8, Human Body is a DVD by Rock 'n' Learn, correlated to National Science Education Standards. that teaches young people about how the human body works. The virtual tour, enhanced by computer animation, covers the skeletal, nervous, muscular, cardiovascular, urinary, respiratory, and digestive systems, as well as the alimentary canal and the nature of the five senses. Bonus material includes tips for doing well on a science test, and good nutrition pointers with "My Pyramid" for kids. Free study materials that go along with the DVD are available online. An entertaining and thoroughly educational resource that makes learning fun, ideal for public school libraries and classroom viewing. 52 minutes.

I purchased this DVD for my daycare.
It arrived in the early afternoon and by pickup time at 5:30 P.M. one 3 year old was telling his dad the heart has 4 chambers and pumps bloodThe "dry" information is presented in a way that captures interest while helping the kids to retain facts.

My both kids(5 & 7) love it! They like the song a lot-wish have more songs about the human body!

Rock N Learn's newest DVD is once again content-rich and entertaining. My kids love the humor in these DVDs. Great for visual learners. Covers subject material well.

Well put together! The problem is that they could do better with the songs and the singing. There is no rhytm or poetry. They should hire people with good voices to sing. Music is very important in learning and remembering concepts.

My 7-year-old first became interested in the human body by watching some Magic School Bus episodes. This DVD is an excellent overview that my son loves!

This is more of an educational video - and not so much an edutainment video. It pales in comparison to Magic School Bus and Crash! Bang! Splat! on the Discovery Kids network.

I suppose if they used it in school it would be okay. It is 90% education and 10% entertainment. I guess it is meant to inform, and not so much to entertain. The animation is a little second rate. I am still trying to get my daughter to watch it.

I recommend this movie for any kid, any age. It is really informative and will help your children get a head start in school and even college.
