Nothing to rave about,
By A Customer
This review is from: Human Diseases: A Systemic Approach (5th Edition) (Paperback)
I used this text for a pathology undergraduate course, along with a more complex text (Concise Pathology by Lange). The Mulvihill text did not solidify the concepts; rather, it skimmed over the topics in a cursory manner without giving each topic the attention it needs. A good book for someone with little background in the health sciences, but not enough for anyone who needs something more comprehensive. One plus in this book are the charts at the end of each chapter, which categorize diseases by signs and symptoms, treatment, etc.

The book itself is a disease,

This review is from: Human Diseases: A Systemic Approach (7th Edition) (Paperback)
Throughout the entire Fall semester, I was struggling to come to term with the content of the book. When I say struggle, it's because the book is full of typo and contradiction. Like one reviewer mentioned earlier, the "text did not solidify the concepts". The information is so brief that you really don't get much out of it. The online exercises is a joke. Some answers are wrong, making you scratch your head. In one multiple choice question, cervical cancer is caused by monkey virus, not HPV virus. Huh? If it's true, fine. But where in the book is the monkey virus mentioned? The worst is the author's test bank. The questions don't pertain to the book, making it hard for students to follow. I'm halfway into my MA program. I work in the hospital amongst a bunch of MDs. I took some of the questions from the test bank to the MDs and they agreed with my answers, which are marked wrong according to the author. Speaking of MDs, I looked up the authors' panel and was stunned to find only PhDs, MA, Pharm Tech etc. I'm not saying PhDs aren't qualified to write a book. But if it's about diseases and treatments, at least give me one MD on the panel. Pharm Tech I can deal with. Who needs an MA for this book?

Too many errors,
By Ed "Ed" (NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Human Diseases: A Systemic Approach (7th Edition) (Paperback)
I have used many Pearson products throughout my nursing program. This book, like other Pearson products, has numerous errors, especially the True/False questions at the end of the chapters. Pearson's desire to provide the most recent, up-to-date information is negated by poor copy editing. Up-to-date information is useless if it's not correct. I'm frustrated with Pearson products in general.
