The key to understanding this book is,

I am doing pre-reqs for nursing school. Of course physiology is a required course. I have to say at first I absolutely hated this book. I am new to sciences and I found this book NOT to be intended for the science neophyte. HOWEVER, this book was assigned reading so I was forced to contend with it. I just finished physio and I got an A for the course. I found that the key to understanding this expensive book was through my purchase of a very inexpensive book which gave me the best OVERVIEW of the fundamentals of physiology. That book is the 2009 Edition of "Campbell's Physiology Notes" by John Campbell. YOU must get the 2009 edition. It is listed here at amazon but Amazon says it is currently unavailable when in fact this is a brand new book. There is a way to get this book. Just google the words "campbellteaching and UK" and order the book directly from campbell's site.I wrote a review of the Campbell book here at amazon at this link: www.amazon.com/Campbells-Physiology-Notes-John-Campbell/dp/0955379725/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242515613&sr=8-3 If you want to see what I mean about how John Campbell's 2009 inexpensive book gets you through this Fox textbook: just try to read the section on Osmosis in this book and then go to youtube and watch John Campbell's video explanation of osmosis. He has several videos at youtube but watch the Osmosis one. THIS GUY IS AMAZING! If you need to understand some important physio concepts this is the guy to watch and his book is a great inexpensive book to own. AFter watching that youtube video of John Campbell's I bought his entire DVD collection. I suggest you watch the video: just google the words "campbellteaching and youtube" and watch his video on Osmosis. THEN while you are at it google the words "campbellteaching and UK" and order his new 2009 "Campbell's Physiology Notes" (physiology book) and then you will not only better enjoy and appreciate this Fox Physiology book but FOR SURE you will better understand at least if you are new to all of this. THAT IS HOW I got my A in my physiology course. So I don't hate this Fox book any more, and I enjoyed many parts of it after reading and watching Campbell. This Fox book is just intended for a reader who is clear on the fundamentals so I got that from the Campbell book and then better appreciated this book.

plethora of images aptly supplement the text,

This is the textbook used in my bioengineering physiology class, and overall, it thus a great job of covering the basics of physiology without going too deep into the details. You get a nice view of the big picture and even get a lot of help understanding the concepts because of all the figures and images that they have included in this book. This would thus be an appropriate textbook if you're teaching yourself physiology as it applies to humans. If you're looking for something that goes into more detail, more appropriate for a medical or professional bookshelf, I highly suggest checking out Guyton and Hall's Textbook of Medical Physiology. It is a book that will certainly be a great addition to the bookshelf of physicians and bioengineers alike.

Great text, publisher "churns" the editions,
By
This review is from: Human Physiology (Hardcover)
A very readable text for students, I have taught out of this textbook for years. There are some errors in the end-of chapter questions and a new edition comes out about every 18 months, making it really pricey for students to keep purchasing a newer, and more $$ edition! The primary difference between editions seems to be the image on the cover and the artwork coloration. The Physiology of our human body doesn't change significantly every 18 months! Always check with your professor and see if an older edition will do - then buy the older, less expensive edition from Amazon!

deplorable,

Absolutely the driest textbook I've ever owned. Not even my teacher liked the book, but she used the publisher's slides and required that we buy the book anyways. Is there nothing else better out there? His descriptions required my teacher to constantly provide "In other words..." to clarify what the heck he was talking about. It's written in a way that requires a person to reread the text a couple of times to "get it." I ended up getting an A in the class, but I relied heavily on both my anatomy and physiology teachers to explain difficult concepts that Fox couldn't.

A good text. Required for my course.,
This review is from: Human Physiology (Hardcover)
I bought it because it was the required text for my course. It is very good. You need to have some chemistry, biology and anatomy background to understand this subject. Many of the explanations assume you have this knowledge. In general I am very satisfied with it.

Terrible Book,
This review is from: Human Physiology (Hardcover)
I used this book for a Physiology class. The book was absolutely terrible. I used my anatomy book all the time and I felt it was very straightforward. This book, however, was not. It is choppy and difficult to understand. I will admit that the lab book that went with it was more helpful than the textbook, both both were lacking. It also speaks to the professor and the book that the book was hardly mentioned and the professor used her own explanations and did not supplement with book material. Total waste of money.

one of the best book of physiology,
This review is from: Human Physiology (Hardcover)
I used this textbook for my undergraduate physiology course. This book is full of illustrations that makes human physiology (anatomy as well as physiology) very easy to understand. It is one of the best physiology textbook I have ever read. I earned excellent grades reading this book.An excellent work by author.

I've read a bunch of physiology books, and this is not only the best of the lot, it's the best written textbook I've ever read. It fit's the audience, undergraduate physiology students, perfectly. Extremely complex topics are made easy to understand. Graphics are not only top quality but, and this is rare, they tie in well with the text.I've witten texts myself and am now an ER nurse, so I appreciate the challenges of publishing. All I can say is, wow!

One of the best textbooks I have purchased but.....,
This review is from: Human Physiology (Hardcover)
One of the best textbooks I have purchased; very easy to read, succint, and well-written. However, McGraw-Hill falsely advertises about the online learning tools such as online quizzes, etc. You can spend $132.00 but you are NOT getting the online learning tools as they said!
