4.0 out of 5 stars Classic thrash by a Christian band

3.0 out of 5 stars Vengenance...we have a problem
While the studio tracks are well produced (and correct) there's one problem with the CD *I* ordered regarding the 'bonus tracks'.
What's LISTED on the back sleeve of the CD AND the body of the CD itself is a LIVE version of "White Throne". However what's RECORDED is a live version of "Beheaded" I wonder if anyone else has this problem? I contacted the record company...

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic thrash by a Christian band, November 30, 2009
This review is from: Human Sacrifice (Audio CD)
This is Vengeance Rising's debut album which was originally released in 1988 during a time when the only other options for Christians who enjoyed Metal music were bands like Stryper and Barren Cross who were rather tame compared to alot of secular metal bands at the time.

Most of this album is brutal thrash in vein of bands such as Dark Angel, Slayer, and Mantas-era Death. What set this band apart from thrash bands like Slayer and Metallica were Roger Martinez's vocal style which was on the fringe of death metal styled vocals.

Their are a few classic rock and blues influences as evidenced on the song Mulligan Stew and the guitar intro to Fill This Place with Blood. My favortie tracks are the title track, Fatal Delay, and Beheaded. Beheaded is played at break neck speed and ends with a horrific scream that lasts nearly 10 seconds and in my opinion ends the album perfectly.

The only downside is that some of the drumming is a bit sloppy and off timed but certainly not enough to constitute a bad album by any means. Also the lead guitar work on here is exceptional and could easily hold up against the best of secular metal bands of the time.

Get this if you like late 80's bay area thrash with semi-death metal vocals and some rock and blues thrown in here and there.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome album by an awesome band!, April 7, 2004
This review is from: Human Sacrifice (Audio CD)
In all my 7 years as a metalhead, I've heard so many people say that metal is the music of the devil. But when I first heard of Vengeance Rising, I gave them a listen, and they completely took that theory and threw it out the window! My favorite music genre + the Christian religion = ONE AWESOME BAND!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Historical Album, November 20, 2003

This review is from: Human Sacrifice (Audio CD)
This is one of the most important Christian metal albums ever. This broke the mold of previous Christian metal albums and was ranked one of the hardest bands- Christian or secular.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I remember listening to this album in the 1990's. Going to school and having my cassette tape in my walkman. Not even mentioning of introducing this metal band to other classmates who were all surprised that a christian group was actually making such music. But I said why not, other bands are singing about Satan, why wouldn't other people sing about God. Now i bought this remastered CD to keep it in my collection. This album is a classic, songs such as "Human Sacrifice", "White throne", "Mulligan Stew", "Burn Satan Burn" are just awesome. If you have not heard about this band but like bands like Slayer, Overkill, Megadeth, Onslaught, Metallica, this band should be in your collection. If you do not believe it, then go to Youtube and listen to the songs. Enjoy, and I hope that the original band members from this album would reunite again for a second part of "white throne II".

A Kid's Review
While the studio tracks are well produced (and correct) there's one problem with the CD *I* ordered regarding the 'bonus tracks'.
What's LISTED on the back sleeve of the CD AND the body of the CD itself is a LIVE version of "White Throne". However what's RECORDED is a live version of "Beheaded" I wonder if anyone else has this problem? I contacted the record company but they claim nothing can be done and they don't seem to believe me. I'd send the CD back but the last time I checked it's out of stock and I've been waiting a long time to purchased this on CD. "Human Sacrifice" was and still is ground breaking! Christian Metal at it's BEST.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Ground Breaking band Ever!, January 25, 2012
I will never forget when I first popped this brand new band's cassette into my tape player when I was 18 years old... I was completely blown away!! I knew instantly that this would be a very useful tool to prove to all my metal head buddies that Christian metal was on the forefront of cutting edge music! I wore this tape out so much I had to buy 2 more and then 2 different cds... Finally I recently purchased the MP3 from here.

The end of this band was equally as shocking to me as well, as their singer no longer kept his faith. Nonetheless, I would still say this band did more for the validity of Christian Music than any in history!

These tunes have become useful for me in a whole new the last few years--perfect music to listen to while I write--Christian Horror Novels!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands down the best Vengeance Rising album, April 24, 2010
This review is from: Human Sacrifice (Audio Cassette)
I just got this album a couple weeks ago. I can indeed see the reason why so many people love this album and why it is a classic. Its taken several spins sense I have got it. I love it. I wish these guys were still around. The Heavenly Father most deffinitely used these guys to win a lot of metal heads over to His wonderful light. I would recommend this to any thrash/death fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant Classic!, August 25, 2009
This review is from: Human Sacrifice (Audio CD)
Vengeance Rising is the infamous Christian 80's thrash band that released a couple of albums before breaking up in early 90's. This album is their debut album released in 1989.

The album is absolutely a classic and a must have! This album is very brutal and most possibly heaviest album I ever heard by a Christian band. I am still amazed the band never got picked up by any of the major metal label like Nuclear Blast or Metal Blade.

The first moment when you push the CD in the player...BAM! The brutality started! No chance to relax and get used to the sound and it will never let you go away. The first track is same title as the album and it is full of excellent riffs and simple structures. Tons of solos throughout the album

I can tell there's some death influences and the production is surprisingly pretty good for their time. I am actually impressed and really appreciate the efforts. Of course there's no such thing as a perfect album but this one is pretty close. The only thing I don't like about this album is that it is freaking short! Only 39 minutes?! C'mon, give me some more Vengeance Rising music!
Good thing they produced another excellent album after this one or I'll go nuts.

Best Song: Beheaded...the last song of the album with that insane vocals by Roger...just total brutality.

Worst Song: Receive Him...obviously filler song and the vocals is kind of annoying actually.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, April 6, 2005

This review is from: Human Sacrifice (Audio CD)
These guys are metal-masters of the highest caliber. The music is tight and well written and the lyrics have substance. Larry Farkas has to be one of the best guitarists around. He is easily in the same league as the late-great Dimebag Darrell. If these guys have a weakspot, it is the vocals - they're good (as opposed to excellent) throught the album with a handful of spots where they are excellent.
Bright spots :
Mulligan's Stew and Burn are both mindblowing with leads that will leave your jaw on the floor. Mulligan's Stew really stands out not only for it's main solo, but for the incredible background leads that wind through the entire song (ala Rocky/ST)

Metal just doesn't get any heavier than this. Period.

This is one of the first christian metal albums I ever heard and easily one of my favorites. These guys were pioneers in the early days of christian music, sounding like Slayer and early Metallica. This album blew me away when I first heard it!
