Book Description

October 1999
A Human Strategy: Toward a genuine spirituality

It has become increasingly evident to me that it is indecent to reconstruct my life ... perhaps because I have chosen to set my inherited morality aside and look at the world from an "amoral" perspective. Moreover, my neighbor fears the collapse of his own morality through my private concern: "Can there be a more valuable orientation toward life?"

Perhaps it is a type of death, just as real as the final death, to cast aside an old identity and become someone new.

Whatever the reason, I have undertaken this experiment and in the process ... for the process, have kept notes and am hereby putting them into some form. Let me call it a "book".Perhaps this is the soft underbelly of a book exposed to the modern world: to say that one can be happier and more valuable without a "beyond" ... that one can not only learn to be content with reality, but can aggressively pursue greater and greater joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide toward sincere spirituality., April 25, 2000
This review is from: A Human Strategy: Toward a Genuine Spirituality (Paperback)
Many Christians (and other theists) accuse atheists not being spiritual, many atheists accuse Christians (and other theists) of being idiots. There are as many "idiot atheists" as there are "idiot theists." This book is an excellent guideline for both theists and atheists for a genuine quest towards spirituality.

I consider myself a hopeful, spiritual, implicity critical, explicitly skeptical, agnostic atheist. This book does an excellent job of demonstrating what "true" "spirituality" is all about. Spirituality (in my opinion) is not about religious affiliation, dogma, or fundamentalism; it's not about liberalism or the worship of a supernatural idea; to me, it's about a search for Self, love, truth, and happiness.

It can be a difficult read at times, at other times the aphorisms are amazingly simplistic; either way, you'll be sitting there thinking, "Exactly!" or "Hey, that's so right!" or "Yeah, that makes good sense."

If I had the money I'd give this book to everyone I know, it truly is that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A difficult but rewarding read and re-read and re-read., October 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Human Strategy: Toward a Genuine Spirituality (Paperback)
Just reading the excerpts, I knew I would like reading it. Some subjects don't immeadiatly bring any understanding or clarity. Then having that subject in recent experience or memory at a later read results in a cascading of "oh yeahs" and "absolutelys". I felt like I was crawling into the authors mind and attempting to see from his view and then put it through my own perspective.
