Editorial Reviews

In the ultimate search for a HUMAN WEAPON, mixed martial artist Jason Chambers and football pro Bill Duff put their bodies on the line as they train in the most lethal forms of combat before going toe-to-toe with masters of each fighting style.

In MILITARY COMBAT, Jason and Bill train in Krav Maga, the renowned Israel Defense Forces form, as well as the formidable U.S. Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP). The no-holds-barred Krav Maga, developed in Israel in the 1940s, has evolved into one of the world s deadliest hand-to-hand combat styles. MCMAP, a 21st Century fusion of styles, is officially called a synergy of mental, character, and physical disciplines with application across the full spectrum of violence.

After intense training, our hosts put their Krav Maga ans MCMAP skills to the test against masters of the forms. Are Chambers and Duff up to the challenge?

DVD Features: Biographies of Jason CHambers and Bill Duff

This is a DVD from the History Channel series, "Human Weapon." In it, the hosts explore Krav Maga and the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. This DVD is lower in price compared to the individual episodes from the History Channel web site, plus you get two episodes instead of one.

Though individual episodes are available cheaply from iTunes or Amazon's Unbox, they can be hard to download without a broadband connection. For fans of the series, culture or martial arts in general, this is a must-have DVD.

Excellent video for those who enjoy real life self defence aspects of varied martial arts styles.

Diverse adaptions of martial art styles that have adapted to specific demographics and population influences.

A video of interest for the "thinking martial artist"...

Buy the original "Human Weapon", it is just two segments of the show. The show is five stars, but don't buy the separate video.

Human Weapon: in which a football-player and wrestler trek around the world sampling martial-arts training, and giving the audience a really concise assessment of what these specific fighting-arts are all about. Every episode is informative and inspiring, but I review this one as my favorite due to personal experience.

In this episode: The team travels to Israel to participate in Krav Maga with the I.D.F., then on to the United States, to learn about the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program!

Krav Maga and M.C.M.A.P. in comparison: both are very effective modern military hand-to-hand combat systems, with a lot of similarity. If you never learn any other fighting-style, but master either one of these, ...its very likely all you will ever need! These are purely tactical fighting styles, designed to train large numbers of personnel as quickly as possible to fight and survive on the battlefield. Observing both systems, an educated practitioner will see similarities with the fighting-skills Fairbarin and Sykes taught to Allied Commandos, S.O.E., and O.S.S. agents during World War II.

You won't learn many "fancy" techniques here. The summary of it all was best explained when I was a M.C.M.A.P. student at Quantico Marine Corps Base: These are techniques utilizing large muscle gross motor-nerve movements. In the stress and violence of close-quarter fighting in a loud chaotic environment, most people are overwhelmed by their basest survival instincts. The average person experiences an array of primal emotions from intense fear to savage rage. Here you need a simple instinctive system of brutal, powerful strikes and throws to overwhelm and destroy your opponent. With rigorous training and repetition, your skills can become automatic responses, ...saving YOUR life!
