First of all, I would like to thank the world of technology for being able to find and purchase old books. This book was written before copyright laws-so your main library, at best, has this title in its closed stacks, where one may not even be able to breathe on the damn pages, let alone take it home.
I appreciate Cooley's work because he challenges me to think. I purchased this book because I liked his "Looking Glass Theory" enough to want to be around this guy's thoughts more. Surprisingly, this theory isn't central in his writing-which i thought it would be, since it is so notorious.
He breaks different aspects of the human condition down and intelligently explains his viewpoint in a way that isn't too pushy or narrow for the reader; this provokes constant reflection for anyone thinking of reading this, which may end up being a slow read, but time well spent.
This book offers enough on the human condition, just short of having to build your own lab in your basement. When you flip your last page, you'll appreciate that you didn't shell out money at a community college, yet learned just the same-for only a few dollars.
