The thing I don't like the most about it how you release the animal, from the front.
Maxine
If you are new to traps, look for one that has a vertical door in the rear to transfer or release the animal safely.
Randall R. Anderson
It seems big, but I have some large stray dogs (hound size) that may not fit into it.

I live on a small farm in a semi-residential area, and destructive domestic dogs are a problem. My application is trapping these dogs and to turn them over to animal control, while needing to be able to easily release wildlife that are accidentally trapped.

This is a good trap, excellent for the price. But the designers did not spend much time on making it easy-to-use. There is also the issue that the wire mesh is a little light for holding large animals. It is fine for dogs, but there is one report that a raccoon can claw his way out. On the other hand, this trap is quite heavy and with a heavier mesh it would probably require two people for most handling. Another caution is that the latch mechanism on the door may hang in the unlocked position, allowing a large animal to push the door open to escape. I found that lubricating the latch mechanism with silicone grease solved this problem.

There two upgrades that I've incorporated:
1. A stationary bait tray with easy access
2. A remote release capability
(1.) I need to be able to refresh the bait daily. The bait must be located in the rather narrow area behind the trip plate. My solution is to bolt a metal bread pan to the back panel with wing nuts and to cut a small access in the rear panel. I can easily add bait through the access. I must remove the bait pan for cleaning, a bit of a pain.
(2.) This trap is advertised for a wild animal use. The double catch latch on the only door requires that the release of an animal be conducted from the front of the trap, a risky venture for a large, frightened, wild animal. It was necessary to fabricate some additional parts, but I have developed a way to open the door from a remote location. I would caution prospective buyers that wild animal release is an issue for this trap.

I was able to trap 4 stray dogs running through the neighborhood and deliver them to the local city pound. The instructions are not as clear as they could be but I was able to pull it together and insert the rod into the trap plate with minimal effort. It is not the best made trap as the black paint was already scrapped off in areas and one of the clasps came off as I took it out of the box. However, it still worked. The trip plate rod was fairly sensitive and I had to play with the wire catch to keep the lid open but once it was set it worked well.

This is portable, but well made. It is heavy, but that's due to its better construction. It works well, and will catch most anything that goes into it. The trigger mechanism isn't set for larger animals so small pests can trigger it as well (racoons, opposums, cats, etc). It seems big, but I have some large stray dogs (hound size) that may not fit into it. I wish this company made the next size up (an x-large model) as the wire coating on everything on it is very durable & long lasting (other larger trap manufacturers don't seem to take that time with theirs). But this trap is fine for fairly large dogs to small pests and again seems very durable and is easy to fold & set.

This trap does what it is advertised to do. I am using it to trap large raccoons, which like my barn and the cat food and water that is there for the "barn cats". The raccoons really beat up a trap if you don't remove them immediately after capture, so this is a replacement for a trap from another manufacturer. The problem is the catch mechanism is not that heavily constructed, and eventually gets beaten up to the point it won't work. This trap is better than the other brand because the catch mechanism is less complicated, but I can sort of tell that eventually it will get bent beyond repair.

The trap will work fine if you need it for light/moderate use. If you plan to trap a whole lot of animals, you may need an "industrial strength" trap and I haven't been able to find one of those.

FYI don't get frustrated. Raccoons are very smart, and often get the bait without tripping the release. I've found adding peanut butter to apple slices so they stick on the trip plate often works. Remember, you only have to "win" one. The critter needs to bat 1000!!

Works very well, I did reinforce some of the hinges with hog rings. Also I had to use a pair of tin snips to cut the springs on the latches, they were so strong that the door would not latch.
If you live in an area with wild life, you might want to think about how you will get them out. While I have caught several stray dogs, I also get my and the neighbors cats. A Fox and a Skunk. The Skunk turned out to be quite friendly, but the Fox tried to bite me every time I reached for the latch. Which I resolved by gently standing the cage on end, released the latches then lowered it back down so the little fellow could be on his way. But a more aggesive animal might be a real handful.

The product is great. However, one problem I see is that you actually have to crawl inside to rebait the trap. It would be nice if you could somehow open the back door to rebait.

Also, you need to have better instructions on how to set up the rod inside the trap.

Thank you very much.
