If there is a common thread running throughout this volume, it is the conviction that Humanism is committed to the method of reason as the chief means of solving problems and the belief that mankind can survive and humans can enjoy a significant life. This conviction and this belief, however, can be realised only if men continue to have confidence in their own natural powers and abilities and the courage to use them.

More About the Author
Paul Kurtz, professor emeritus of philosophy at the State University of New York at Buffalo and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, is the author or editor of more than fifty books, including The Transcendental Temptation, The Courage to Become, Embracing the Power of Humanism, plus nine hundred articles and reviews. He is the founder of the Center for Inquiry/Transnational, the Council for Secular Humanism, and the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. He has appeared on many major TV and radio talk shows, and has lectured at universities worldwide.

Not very informative,

I wasn't sure what to expect when I found this book, and it offered no pleasant surprises. It is a collection of mostly dull, tedious, and repetitive essays. There is very little real meat here, just pages and pages of nice writing and many of the same points repeated. This is certainly not worth reading even for the occasional interesting parts.
