5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, great looking chair
I purchased this chair online. If you look around, you can get the custom built chair for the same price or less than the "quick ship" version. the chair is great looking and supremely comfortable. It is not a large chair, so if you are over 5'11" and 180-190 lbs, it might not be your best choice as the back might be too flexible. I'm 5'8" and 145 libs and it is just...

1.0 out of 5 stars I hate this chair
My company recently "upgraded" to these chairs. I cannot stand them. They have no back support whatsoever. When I sit and actually put my weight against the back, it reclines so far that I feel like I'm in a dentist's chair. This makes it very difficult to reach my keyboard.

The armrests are adjustable, as well as the height and "depth" of the seat, but...

1.0 out of 5 stars I hate this chair, July 14, 2009
This review is from: Liberty Chair - by Humanscale
My company recently "upgraded" to these chairs. I cannot stand them. They have no back support whatsoever. When I sit and actually put my weight against the back, it reclines so far that I feel like I'm in a dentist's chair. This makes it very difficult to reach my keyboard.

The armrests are adjustable, as well as the height and "depth" of the seat, but unfortunately there is no way to adjust the back, or lock it in a position.

The only way I can manage to work in this chair is by leaning forward - at which point the back of the chair is providing NO support (I might as well be sitting on a stool).

The result is that after a 9-10 hour day of sitting in this chair, my back is tired and sore.

I do not recommend this chair.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks Terrible Within Weeks; Not That Comfortable, February 22, 2009
By
This review is from: Liberty Chair - by Humanscale
The gel seat and green fabric on my Liberty chair deteriorated immediately after I got it. To put it bluntly, the gel will conform to the impression left behind and will NOT return to normal. If you are vain, I'd avoid this chair like the plague. (I'm a "normal" size adult male a little over 200 lbs.) It looks horrible and embarrassing.

Consider also that if this is a shared chair, that no one wants to sit in a chair that has an impression of someone else's butt in it.

The chair itself is not all that comfortable either and the only adjustable part of it is height and armrests. There are no back or seat adjustments. I feel like it's pushing me forward and after sitting in it for a while find myself craning my neck. It can make me a little achy after a long day.

It sickens me to think of the money I sunk into this chair when I could've bought an Aeron and I'm strongly considering trashing it. The manufacturer (Humanscale) doesn't offer any information about how to repair these on their website.

I give it two stars because it is extremely sturdy and structurally sound and may be good for extremely dainty people. If you weigh more than 110 lbs, I'd encourage you to strongly reconsider.

Otherwise, this is just an expensive mess.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, great looking chair, March 2, 2010

I purchased this chair online. If you look around, you can get the custom built chair for the same price or less than the "quick ship" version. the chair is great looking and supremely comfortable. It is not a large chair, so if you are over 5'11" and 180-190 lbs, it might not be your best choice as the back might be too flexible. I'm 5'8" and 145 libs and it is just perfect. I had gorgeous red/orange "carmine" fabric put on the seat with a black mesh back and it looks great in my home office. However, the most impressive feature is how astonishingly comfortable it is. This chair isn't cheap, but it is worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relieved lower back pain, January 2, 2011
By
S. Johnson (OR United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I sit for 9-10 hours/day and don't take many breaks. Those are bad work habits for someone with a lower back injury, but there it is. Usually I sit in hard wooden chairs, since soft chairs cause back pain.

The Humanscale Liberty task chair has been fantastic. It provides great support and is really comfortable, accommodating my (still) lousy work habit of sitting too long between breaks. The back tilts separately from the seat, so you can stretch easily when you need to. There's no need to make any adjustments to the chair; it just moves with you.

Another reviewer said that the chair is uncomfortable for a larger person; I'm fairly small (about 5'2") so that may make a difference, too.

This chair was recommended and fitted for me by an ergonomics specialist -- not cheap, but worth it. If you have back problems, I'd strongly recommend that you go to an office furniture store with a knowledgable staff and try out different chairs. Some stores will let you try out a chair for a few days before buying it. While you'll probably pay full retail for that level of service, it might be worth it for you, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feels like a cloud, October 19, 2008
This review is from: Liberty Chair - by Humanscale
I just unpacked this chair, so I can't attest to its long-term effects, but I've never felt a more comfortable chair in my life. I ordered it because my tax accountant had one and was raving about it. His had a green seat and gray mesh, very handsome. I have an Aeron chair for my office, but I wanted a second desk chair to use at my kitchen table so when my husband's around, we could work at the same time. We're both teachers and writers, so we work at home a lot. The Liberty chair makes the Aeron feel stiff and hard by comparison. I'm considering switching them and making the Aeron the backup chair. I got the Aeron on Craig's List--there's always tons of them, but I haven't seen a Liberty chair on Craig's List. I got mine online for $750, free shipping--I didn't have a choice of color, but the blue of my chair looks good in a home office--even though it's not half as lovely as my accountant's color combo.

1.0 out of 5 stars Humanscale Liberty, April 30, 2007
Don't buy this chair unless you want your back to hurt. This chair will be responsible for many sleepless nights and visits to the chiropractor. Basically it's for looks not comfort.
