I'm nearly 40 years old and enjoyed this book when I was a little girl in the early seventies. Now that I have two little girls of my own, I love that this story is still around! Lorna Balian has managed to create a character that is sweet and mischievous and endearing and by the end of the story, you will find yourself with a huge smile on your face! I recall begging my mom to help me put all the special and kooky ingredients into a big pot in the kitchen to see if I could stir up some witches' brew! I won't tell you if it worked, you'll just have to see for yourself! <wink wink> Great illustrations go along with a memorable story. A must-have for any kids' library.

I read this book to my elementary students (grades 1-4) during Halloween week...they thoroughly enjoyed it! I enjoyed seeing the surprised look on their faces at the end! Delightful little story for Halloween!

We all loved this charming, cute, funny book, from Daddy down to our two year old. The illustrations are clever and the surprise ending makes this a memorable Halloween read aloud. This should become a classic.

I read this book to 42 classes of 3, 4, and five year olds over the years and some grandchildren. I'm so happy to have found it again!
It's a great story to explore the scary parts of Halloween with small children and the story line, with Fred, the cat, is attention keeping.

I loved this book when I was young. My children loved this book. And now my grandkids are enjoying this darling story.

I bought this become because another classroom teacher recommended it. My students loved reading the book and then doing an art project drawing the witch afterwards. It is such an adorable story all can enjoy.

The book arrived in perfect condition and in quick time. A few years back I tried to order the book and could only find used editions. Glad to have this book now.

I bought this book simply because it is attached to some of my favorite memories as a young reader. My children have grown past the age that they want to read picture books, but I can clearly remember sitting in the school library as a young girl reading this book and looking at the pictures. I HAD to have this for my classroom library! No matter what grade I wind up teaching, this will be a book that comes out in October every year. It's too cute to pass up.

This is the first book I ever "owned" - I could "read" it when I was two years old. I was probably just reciting it from memory, but to this day my mother talks about this book. I was lucky enough to get a decent copy of the original hardcover last year, and it is one of my prized possessions. My two nieces, ages 5 and 3, know where this book is when they come to my house and have it read to them every time. I purchased this soft-cover edition to give to my oldest niece for Christmas.

I have been looking for this book for years. I couldn't remember the exact title and that really slowed me up. I finally discoverd it and am very pleased to find it is still in print. It is exactly as I remember it from my childhood. Now I can share it with my own kids. It's not scarey...instead, it's really cute!
