The pediatrician's prescription for my three month baby's thrust doesn't work. I tried twice and each time last for ten days. It didn't get improve at all. I used q-tip with a couple drops of Gentian Violet 1% and rubbed his tongue and surround mouth areas. He got bright purple lips like using purple lipstick. I also use some in my nipples since I was breast feeding. In three days, the thrust was gone.

My son got thrush all the time as a baby -- and toddler and young boy and even now. The prescription drug nystatin wasn't all that effective, especially when he was breastfeeding. Gentian violet worked well. I painted my nipples and let him breastfeed so that we were both purple.
The staining in his mouth didn't last long and the stain on clothing was easy to get out. In fact, the nystatin was more difficult to wash out of clothing than gentian violet. The only thing to be careful of is it can cause sores in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract. In fact, my son did get some bleeding sores one time and we had to stop; so I tried not to use gentian violet unless I had to, and then I only used the 1% strength.

DUE TO MY HUSBAND'S HEALTH & OTHER MEDICATIONS WHICH CAUSE HIM TO HAVE THRUSH, IT WAS SUGGESTED BY ONE OF HIS NURSES TO PLACE A DROP OF GENTIAN VIOLET ON HIS TONGUE. IT WORKED GREAT! THE COATING ON HIS TONGUE DISAPPEARED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. HIS MOUTH & LIPS TURNED BLUE, JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN, BUT IT DIDN'T LAST LONG. GREAT PRODUCT!
