There is no mention in the product description that this is a technical grade saltpeter, not a food grade... meaning this probably shouldn't be used to cure meats.

Disappointing.

Worked very well for the purpose I intended it for, it was a little more reactive than I expected if anything!

Mix 1 lbs of this with 3 lbs of white sugar. Mix together into a bucket. The powder saltpeter will coat the sugar. Agitate a fire ant mound with a stick. With a small cup take some of the mixture out of the bucket, (about a cup), and poor it into the ant pile. They will immediately start taking in their prize. The ants are thinking, "Sugar! Yeah! We can rebuild our mound in no time. How often to the Gods just drop a cup of sugar on us?" (if in fact an ant colony has thought patterns that detailed.).

Wait about an hour and with a match lite the remaining mixture. Once ignition occurs you can stand back and watch the destruction of the any hill. muuhaahhhh! The cool thing is, the ants have brought the mixture deep into their lair by now. So the queen gets it too! The mixture expands into an smoldering mass. And it's cool to to watch the adjacent hills start to puff with smoke and ants writhe from smoke damage.

This works better than anything I've ever used. And well...in a demented sort of way it's pretty cool. I've seen smoke come from smaller mounds that were 10 feet away.

Not much to say about the product. Is is 1 lb of potassium nitrate. I used it to make corned beef. Though after more research it seems that most modern processes uses Insta Cure #1 (AKA pink salt) for curing meat.

I only know two things this stuff is good for, preserving meat, and making one hell of a smoke bomb, so I used it to make smoke bombs for paintballing, or air soft tournaments, just try not to breathe it in I read it isnt good for you.

This is great for making smoke grenades...other than that it's useless.
