Editorial Reviews

After selling more than two million albums on their first two major-label releases, (Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz and Wooden Leather), Nappy Roots are back with their independent debut album, The Humdinger. The Humdinger's set-up single "No Static" is garnering major praise from fans online for being the kind of sincere and honest hip hop song that helped make Nappy Roots famous 6 years ago.

The Humdinger successfully showcases each member's unique personality on tracks like "Kalifornia Dreamin'" and "Swerve & Lean", both produced by platinum producer Sol Messiah (Jay-Z, Dead Prez, David Banner) and also boasts a new summer anthem "Good Day" which features a group of children singing the feel good chorus. Another key track is "Down 'N Out" and features the always engaging Anthony Hamilton.

Nappy Roots (Skinny Deville, Fish Scales, Ron Clutch, B. Stille and Big V) have come a long way since their humble beginnings in the mid 90's as college students at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Their politically conscious rap style has solidified them as one of the South's most successful and respected rap groups of all time.

"When you think of Nappy, you think raw and untamed," says Nappy Roots member Fish Scales, explaining the hip-hop quintet's unique moniker. "But you also think pure and natural. That's what we are," chimes in partner in rhyme, Skinny DeVille. "Our name signifies our unwillingness to conform with fads. Once the fads die out, you always come back to the roots."

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best this year so far!!!!!, August 8, 2008
By
This review is from: Humdinger (Audio CD)
Been a fan of Nappy Roots for a long long time now and to see them put together an album this good just really makes me happy.I have listened to the album from start to finish and let me say the beats are sick and the lyrics are even more sick.If your looking for a great album to purchase that just doesn't have 3 or 4 decent songs but you can listen all the way through i recommend buying this Nappy Roots.Highly recommended not only by me but several of my peers.

The first half of this album.. up to track 7 just completely kills!! So awesome.. but like the Chicken and Grits album.. the 2nd half blows and not very creative at all.
