This is certainly a good all-around cup mute. It has a good tone, kind of dry because of the material it made of. It blends very nicely with other instruments and keeps playing into the ensemble sound easy. I really enjoy using this mute when playing musicals, particuarly older books. The pitch on the mute is consistent throughout the range, and it only creates a very small difference from the pitch center on trumpet. (Which is always nice to not have to move your tuning slide with every mute change). The mute is pretty durable, and will not dent. It will however break if too much weight is put on it...like sitting on it! The cork may need some filing to get the exact sound you want.
