Retire your Harmon wow-wow and get one of these...,

This review is from: Humes & Berg 103 Trumpet Cleartone Mute
Humes & Berg 103 Trumpet Cleartone MuteSeveral years ago, trumpet players in our 16-piece swing band switched to the Clear Tone mute from the Harmon [wow wow] mute. Although roughly similar in sound to the Harmon, the Clear Tone has two decided advantages: - Once a Harmon's cork become "used", it has a tendency to fall out of the bell at inopportune times. First moistening the bell-insides by breathing HAH into it helps a little, but that increases insertion time. The Clear Tone on the other hand, stays in as well as a straight or cup mute and is quick to insert and remove. - The Clear Tone plays louder so there's a better chance of being heard over the rest of the band. You can do the wow-wow effect with a Clear Tone since the end is open; and it sounds good in a concert band where a Harmon is called for. To top it off, this is not an expensive mute...
