I am a long time brass musician who recently added the French Horn. Naturally, the music we are playing requires a mute. As a beginner, I did not want to spend a fortune, and from other experience, I assumed a basic, stone lined mute would work. It inserts well into the bell. The quality is fine. The mute plays well in tune, and the conductor has offered no complaints. Admittedly, I am not familiar with all the nuances you might get from mutes of other materials, but this one performs well at a reasonable price. If only I could say the same about the French Horn . . . ;-)
