I TRIED 2 PUCKS, "THRU HAWL" -- READINGS WERE NEVER STABLE ENOUGH TO KNOW IF YOU WERE IN 4 FEET OF WATER OR 11 FEET OF WATER... THESE PUCKS WERE INSTALLED JUST 1/8" FIBERGLASS TO TRANSMIT THRU AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR INSTRUCTIONS... NEXTED I TRIED THE TRANSOM MOUNT RIGHT SMACK IN THE WATER, SITTING WITH NO ENGINE RUNNING AND 1/2 THE TIME IT SEEMED NORMAL BUT THEN IT WOULD START JUMPING AROUND..... THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR MADE ME FEEL I COULD NOT TRUST THE INDICATION I WAS SEEING.......... DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! THERE ARE OTHERS OUT THERE THAT WORK BUT MAY COST A FEW EXTRA DOLLARS BUT THAT'S YOUR CHOICE...

This depth finder does not have an internal On-off switch so make sure you wire one into it. I also had problems with the readings going haywire after initial installation following the installation instructions to a tee. I had to deviate and mount the transducer much higher than they recommend to get a reading. The readings still goes haywire when on-plane though not much I can do about that.

Did not hold up,
This review is from: Humminbird 4064801 HDR 610 In-Dash Digital Depth Gauge (Electronics)
The HDR-610 I bought 11 months ago has developed problems with one month to go on the factory warranty. Let's see if they make good.
The unit I bought has a "puck" transducer and the boat maker provided a spot near the transom for just such an installation. The manufacturer smoothed the rough inside fiberglass surface for an area the puck can be mounted within (thanks, Stingray Boats !). Installation went well, and I added a power switch to disconnect the unit when at anchor. The back-lit dial draws current, and so does the unit itself, so switching off the power externally makes sense to not kill the battery. Symptom: Unit will not take accurate readings while underway. It posts numbers in the 500s when I know the water is 70 feet or less. When I idle or am at anchor, it reads fine. The problem shows up regardless of forward speed or whether the water is rough or flat. The only topic that could apply to my case in the troubleshooting guide is a possible pinched cable. The book says the cable is vulnerable to even the slightest damage. None found, from transducer to dashboard. So, I shall report back here what Humminbird offers for satisfaction.

The product was new and packaged in orginal packaging. Condition excellent. We have not put the depth finder in our boat yet, but it looks like we shouldn't have any problems with it.
