Book Description

Did You Know . . .

• A hippopotamus can consume over one hundred pounds of grass EVERY night?
• That hippos can sleep underwater?
• A hippo makes an excellent sleepover guest?!

For Your Family

Written by a family for your family, Humongous Hippopotamus by Michael Wills (with a helping hand from his two young daughters) gives a fantastic insight into the minds, lives and imaginations of these fascinating creatures: from feeding to sleeping to swimming. And then back to feeding again. Available exclusively as a downloadable e-book, Humongous Hippopotamus is aimed at children of all ages – and their adults!

A great balance of fact and fiction, this e-book is packed with humor (which will appeal as much to grown-ups as kids) and interspersed with true, educational snippets about hippos. It’s also superbly illustrated with a selection of gorgeous, fun, colorful photos that children will love to look at. The text is simple enough for a preschooler to understand, easy enough for a second-grader to try to read alone, yet interesting enough to keep older children amused too.

When it comes to literary critics, children are the harshest of all, but Humungous Hippopotamus is one e-book that will keep them entertained from start to finish – just take a look at the Amazon reviews and reader feedback and see for yourself.

Whether you’re a parent, teacher, First-Grader or a cool older kid, you NEED to download this book today. It’s fun, funny, easy-to-read and (sssshhhh!) educational too. Not to mention the benefits of using interactive, modern technology with your little ones. Humungous Hippopotamus offers the perfect opportunity to explore the wilds of Africa from the comfort of Mom or Dad’s knee: great for daytime, bedtime or anytime. And the children won’t even notice how much they’re learning!

5.0 out of 5 stars So silly January 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I read this I already knew it was going to be silly - perfect for my son and I to read together. This book includes the silliness of childhood mixed with hippo facts. As a homeschooler, I always believe these 2 things are imperative for children to learn. Also, this made us smile together while reading. It was quick and easy to read and by the end he knew the word hippopotamus without my help. Talk about building memories and growing a vocabulary. I never knew a few hippos together were a bloat - now that has become our keyword for making jokes around the house.

Very cute story, and as it says, it is truly Certified Silly.

5.0 out of 5 stars The kind of kids book the Kindle was made for January 16, 2013

We found this a fun book, my son and I. The pictures are great and the hippo facts are interspersed with silliness that made my son and I laugh. This is great book for the Kindle because of the zoom and my son had a lot of fun with it. One problem was that originally we read it on a notebook in the car and it didn't work in Kindle for PC. But on the Kindle Fire you can zoom in the pictures and stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everything that a Children's Book Should be ! January 19, 2013
By Hayley
Format:Kindle Edition
I was browsing for new books for children and stumbled across this gem .

Delightful, fascinating and superbly organized. This book is a rare treat for children and adults alike.

Hippos are wonderful creatures to look at, they are unbelievably endearing with a toothsome wholeness. They are of course the prefect animals for children to learn about and engage with .

Crammed with pages of captivating images of hippos ( my personal favorite of two hippos enjoying a siesta in the sun ) and oodles of interesting facts and figures presented in an easy , relaxed style children will be able to get involved with learning without feeling it's a chore to do so.

The book showcases hippos in their natural habitat and offers some really incisive information about them for example their diet consists solely of grass and they're not particularly good swimmers despite having "webbed feet". Much of this detail is cushioned with child friendly silliness so we're also given the inside scoop on how Hippos do the " rocket splits" , how they like to "ballroom dance" and that we should at all costs avoid "tickle fights and duck duck goose" on play dates with them!

This book sparkles with imagination and the author has created a book without a single second of boredom a rare feat indeed !

Exceptionally well executed destined to become a family favourite . Buy with confidence .

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written, clever, and entertaining March 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has wonderful, eye-catching pictures that illustrate the topic of each page perfectly. The text is a wonderful combination of factual sentences (in italics) that appeal to lovers of non-fiction and the whimsical silliness of a good fictional story (sentences in regular typeface) written in an informal, pseudo-instructional style. This method of presentation allows an adult who is reading the book to very young children who may not understand the tongue-in-cheek humor to easily pick out and read only the text that he deems appropriate and intelligible to the real audience, the child. The sentences are short, yet interesting, and the overall effect is delightful. This is my first purchase of a Michael Wills book, and I am looking forward to reading it with my 2-1/2 year-old grandson. I have no doubt that he will like it. I am very happy to hear that there are more of Wills' books available and forthcoming as I am already a fan.

More About the Author

Hello. I'm a husband, father, part-time geek, and full-time lawyer. I own and operate Digital Science Fiction books in my spare time. I love to read, of course. I also like bad science fiction movies, but good ones even more. I have written and published children's books including Humongous Hippopotamus, Dashing Dolphins, and Six Birds Book. This is a fun activity I enjoy doing with my daughters. Thank you again for considering my books, I hope you enjoy them. Cheers, Michael Wills
