5.0 out of 5 stars Oh they are funny!
I do enjoy the occult and reading true and even scary ghost stories - but every once in a while it is fun to read something that makes you laugh like PG Wodehouse or Oscar Wilde, now, in this book, Dr. Dorothy Scarborough has put together some of the most laugh out loud, farcical, witty ghost stories EVER!

I'm sorry but I just DISLIKED this book. It wasn't funny. The formatting was distracting. And the stories? Re said tripe I've heard told better around a campfire. But a preteen. So I'm sorry, but I'm not impressed.

Thank you for your time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be scared and laugh too! Ghosts have a funny bone!, July 5, 2009
This review is from: Humorous Ghost Stories (Paperback)
As someone interested in the paranormal, I am always on the look out for a book like this - as I expect that some ghosts much keep on some 'human' qualities after death - and this book has these types of stories.

First, the book is full of great reads, you will really love the stories and the writing and the imagination.

Second, you will laugh - but its not all funny - they are ghosts - and sometimes the ghost gets the last laugh!

Lastly, this book will get you thinking about your own experiences - or show you how to find them! After all, ghosts are very close!

Enjoy! :)

Classic ghost stories with a bit of humor. I've read two or three here and enjoyed them all. Looking forward to reading others from time to time - a nice treat between more serious reading.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Funny Ghost Left the Room Circa 1935, October 1, 2011
I love a good ghost story. And I find a humorous tale enjoyable also. So, I thought this would be an excellent combination. Needless to say, I was wrong.

I want to say the reason may be due to the age of the collection, but that wasn't the case. Humor transcends time and these stories, for the most part, were not humorous. Each story was at least somewhat interesting, and there were ghosts (sometimes). But, there was never a time I 'laughed out loud'. I believe I chucked once, maybe twice. The fact is, just because a ghost isn't scary doesn't make him humorous.

A more apt title to this collection "Quaint Ghost Stories" or "Quirky Ghost Stories". At most, I would call the ghosts in this collection as simply "odd", especially for the time period. Having this mindset may have made me enjoy them a little more. I just kept waiting for something funny and was disappointed. As for a recommendation for a story that has a ghost and that also has some light humor - any episode of "Scooby-Doo" (at least the ones that don't have Scrappy) will do better than this collection.
