5.0 out of 5 stars Winchesters finest to date.
After seven years without hearing from him, Jessie Winchester comes back with a remarkable offering.Without a doubt his best produced and most memorable collection of exquisitley crafted American music. The title song HUMOUR ME, lightly pokes fun at way relationships can be affected by the old flame factor. IF I WERE FREE is beautifully rendered and is a real standout...

2.0 out of 5 stars SOME GOOD SONGS - NOT A KEEPER
Humour Me is one of those cd's that you debate about keeping in your cd collection. Humour Me is, for the most part, a pleasant listening experience. The cd includes songs with a variety of tempos. Thus Humour Me does not have an overall sad theme, as some of Jesse's cds do. The artists who provide back-up instrumentation on this cd do an excellent job. Jesse's voice is...

After seven years without hearing from him, Jessie Winchester comes back with a remarkable offering.Without a doubt his best produced and most memorable collection of exquisitley crafted American music. The title song HUMOUR ME, lightly pokes fun at way relationships can be affected by the old flame factor. IF I WERE FREE is beautifully rendered and is a real standout on this album. America has been robbed in the sense that Jessie has never gained the recognition he so richly deserves. This album should have made him a giant. He has finished a new album, soon to be released, and it would be hard to imagine that he could top HUMOUR ME. Buy it! Buy his whole catalog. You won`t be disappointed.

such a good album, but it's a narrow niche. If you don't have access to Americana music, where would you find out about this album? It's delightful, for sure. Such good songs, with some excellent backing by acoustic stars like Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas. There is an overall consistency and congruence in the songs that is rare on most disks. My own favorite is Pushover both for the lyrics and the sound. There are gems on his other alboms, but the more recent Gentleman of Leisure falls short of the standard he sets here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too weak to say, December 26, 2011

I have loved this song, "Too weak to say good'bye" for over 30 years. Had it on casette but casettes as a rule last even 30 years but this one did not and it has been difficult to find a site that could give me a clue until UTUBE. Overall the cd is pretty good but I bought it for the one song.

Thus Humour Me does not have an overall sad theme, as some of Jesse's cds do. The artists who provide back-up instrumentation on this cd do an excellent job. Jesse's voice is stong and clear on Humour Me. Humour Me is a good choice if you are looking for background music. My personal preference is to only keep and listen to cd's that in some way continue to fascinate me. Humour Me does not provide me with the necessary fascination. Humour Me is best described as "mundane". Thus I'm not keeping Humour Me.
