Ages 4^-6. In the fourth episode in a series featuring Horatio the stuffed rabbit and James the teddy bear, Horatio demonstrates his disappearing act for his elephant friend, Humphrey Thud. Humphrey then tries to perform the trick for James, only to discover that elephants are too big to disappear into socks the way little stuffed rabbits can. Even though the plot is kept simple, there are some twists and turns as well as action and humor enough to keep youngsters interested. What's more, the soft washes and muted tones of Ashforth's watercolors make the pictures both comforting and pleasing. Children who've enjoyed Horatio and James' previous adventures will find a new friend in Humphrey. Lauren Peterson
