Review

"...Lyrical and amazing in its comic depth, Gordon's novel teaches us a little about Heaven and a lot about Hell. His vision  is radical and healing, his story impossible not to love."
  --Sharon Doubiago

"... Humping Credenzas resonates with me on a more fundamental level than almost anything I have ever read."  --Huffington Post

"I don't even know what to say about it. It's simply unbelievable. An amazing piece of writing... In a category by itself. ...Should be on any serious reader's 'to-read" list." --Stacey's Simple Review

This is a beautiful little explosion of a book. The title, "Humping Credenzas with the Late Bobbie Kennedy - A Convict's True Account," suggests a recipe filled with the tasty ingredients that make for a good read. However, the contents, swirling with an intensity of sensations, characters, and the conundrums of what it means to be human make for a fantastic, soulful read. Robert Ellis Gordon has crafted an adrenaline rush of reflection, a paradox made fresh, and flesh, in the form of boy meets girl, man meets self, and moving man moves you. Powerful.

This book was always a buried classic, passed hand to hand and by word of mouth. It's an audacious premise, Bobby Kennedy returning to earth as a moving man because the Heavenly Gatekeepers couldn't decide if he deserved Heaven or Hell. And it uses a wonderful engaging plot to raise huge moral questions about a pivotal historical leader, but also about what our own lives are worth, and how they could matter. It's a great book.

Robert Gordon's Humping Credenzas with the Late Bobby Kennedy begins with an unlikely premise: after his murder, Bobby Kennedy is sent by St. Peter back to earth, to work as a moving man in Seattle. It takes you on a wild and fascinating ride through politics, prisons, morality and redemption. The writing is vivid and draws you in; the fantastical nature of the plot seems entirely logical as you read on. Ultimately the author uses his story to develop important lessons about humanity. I could not put it down.

Humping Credenzas with Bobby Kennedy takes the reader- ready or not- on a remarkable journey into the Kennedy times, the kinds of personal memories that resonate with us all as well as our hopes and fears for ourselves and our country. A remarkable blend of magical realism, history, singular detail, colorful characters with Bobby Kennedy at the helm, the narrative manages to be both fast moving and poignant. Highly recommended for readers looking for storytelling from unusual perspectives.

Format: Paperback
For anyone who is interested in the Kennedy Dynasty, but looking for a unique ride outside the typical biographies written about their family, Humping Credenzas is the answer. It's a compelling, dark, often shocking, yet very humorous novel, with true historical facts mixed in. How Gordon came up with the concept of having Bobby Kennedy reincarnated as a moving man in Washington, I'll never know, but it works. And the journey author Gordon sends him on while back on earth is a trip...complete with Mafia, Marilyn Monroe, murder, jail time and much more. I read a lot of books, ranging from light novels to biographies to business books, and many of them I forget. This, however, will not be one of them.

Compelling. Agreeably quirky. Electrifying. Couldn't say it better myself. Here's a taste:

It was a miracle here, a miracle there. Hardly a day-to-day phenomenon. Or even a weekly phenomenon.

It was more like once a month.

Less.

If you don't want to read the book now, we have nothing in common. Gordon's sensibility is such a tickle you will want to have him all to yourself. You'll want to meet him for coffee. Have his baby. Be his mother in another lifetime.
