5.0 out of 5 stars A student's perspective, May 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Humpty Dumpty Sat on the Globe: Geotales from Around the World (Paperback)
I grew up with Humpty Dumpty Sat on the Globe. Mr. Kian volunteered at the library where I used to watch the puppet shows. Mr. Kian would perform stories from his book while he was writing it, to see how well the idea worked. It worked wonderfully.

When I entered into middle school and took geography, it was a breeze. I knew all about Greece, Thailand, Guyana, and Mali. I could point them out on the map and even tell a few facts about the country. Two years later, the book was published and my parents bought it to help my younger brother. To tell the truth, at the age of 15, I still like to read it.

This is a really great book and I think everyone should read it. I think my teachers should make it their textbooks. I like the book. My friends like it and my little brother likes it. Besides, I know more about the world than my parents do. It's a nice feeling, to know something they don't.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Easy and Fun way to learn World Geography!!, April 1, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Humpty Dumpty Sat on the Globe: Geotales from Around the World (Paperback)
Could you find "Mali" on a World map if the country name wasn't on it? What about "Algeria"? Did you know "China" looks like a "Bowling Panda Bear"? "Humpty Dumpty Sat on the Globe" is a unique and fun way to learn World Geography. On one page you have a country with a list of informative facts. On the opposite page a character is drawn from the actual shape of the country (ex. Italy=boot, Cuba=an Alligator) with a clever story tying it all together. A Definite MUST for Teachers, Parents, or Anyone else who wants to learn World Geography in a fun and Interesting Manner. A True POWERFUL TEACHING TOOL for ALL AGES. Over 26 Countries covered with fully colored Illustrations!

5.0 out of 5 stars Map of the world comes to life--thanks to Humpty Dumpty, June 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Humpty Dumpty Sat on the Globe: Geotales from Around the World (Paperback)
First of all the title is cute. It is a good conversation openner as soon as you pick it up--and a conversation that starts with a smile.

My son loved the book because, in the first hour of reading it, he said he is an editor. He showed me the first section of the book and it was there in black and white, that the correction was done by my son who is only 9. Fereydoun had personally vouched for that. I mean the kids get the first enthusiastic step into the world of editing a book, because Fereydoun shows them the fun of mistakes and the excitement of finding them. The book is actually about the maps and how to remember them. You look at the map of Italy and it looks like a boot. The map of Mexico is like a Sawfish with a broken saw because he was drinking and driving from Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific. I think this is why the title of the book is so interesting. A map of a country is matched with a character in a story. I am a grwon man, so why do I like it? I learned that Egyptians invented Bowling. Pants was invented by the Persians. Numbers 0 to 9 is the Indian Number system. Sequoia tree(red wood) in California is older than the Pyramids of Egypt. Tennis was the national passtime in France 800 years ago. The facts read just like fictions, and the fictions(the stories Mr. Kian) conjured up is as interesting as facts. My son keeps impressing his teachers and his friends. I can live with that. I do that sometime myself. It's fun.
