Hard-boiled practical wisdom with a warm touch, March 27, 2010
If you aren't familiar with the author, I think the best introduction would be to list the "7 Principles of Huna," as presented by King:
1. The World Is What You Think It Is.
2. There are no limits.
3. Energy Flows Where Attention Goes.
4. Now Is The Moment Of Power.
5. To Love Is To Be Happy With (someone or something).
6. All Power Comes From Within.
7. Effectiveness Is The Measure Of Truth.
Me? I like this approach. A lot. This book starts with these principles, expands on them (without ever getting too head-in-the-clouds or "new age-y"), and boils it all down to practical approaches towards greater effectiveness and happiness.
It's a shorter read than you might expect, but I didn't finish feeling like there was anything missing. If anything, he just wrote what he needed to without padding it unnecessarily.
There are enough parallels to safely place King's teachings in the 'New Thought'/'Law of Attraction' category, but I found his words to be more grounded (and less marketing-obsessed) than many of the other authors in that field.
Highly recommended for those seeking to create the life that they want.

Easy living!, September 4, 2009
Serge Kahili King is one of the best teachers on the applications of how to transform your life and the planet by the powers of the mind. He explains the Huma teachings and their applications. He explains the seven principles of Huna and how to use them for success. He gives clear and easy steps to change and improve living related to health, wealth, and success in all areas of one's life. He does not brag on his outstanding knowledge or imply that he is a great, all-knowing person. He is humble and basic. Everyone I have given his books to, especially his material on Shamanism, are as equally addicted to his teaching and writing style as I am. Learning how to impact the planet in positive ways, improve my life style, and manage daily encounters with people who are clueless to the fact that they create their own reality, has truly made my life harmoniously peaceful and easy.

Hawaiian wisdom, October 19, 2009
This review is from: Huna: Ancient Hawaiian Secrets for Modern Living (Paperback)
Kumu King attempts to present tradition Hawaiian precepts in a way that is understandable to the Western minds. In my research for my novel, Wai-nani, High Chiefess of Hawaii, I read many of the early authors attempting to translate Hawaiian thinking into modern ways of understanding. King goes a step further suggesting modes of application. I found the book useful in that it helped me understand some of the basic ideas of how to achieve personal power, intention of thought and living in love and harmony with others and the environment.
King is not a native Hawaiian, though he has lived in Hawaii most of his life. He has a degree in psychology, has studied cross-cultural ties and has learned that many roads lead to the same truth. His is a thoughtful presentation that is a round up of thoughts found between the covers of modern self-help books and demonstrates how the ancient Hawaiian approach is similar in many ways. The book is worth reading because it serves as a refresher course on how to rid ourselves of self-limiting negative thoughts and how to take responsibility for what is happening in our own lives. I think this book was written with great Aloha for his readers and should be added to the library of anyone wanting a better understanding of what the word "Huna" really means.
