5.0 out of 5 stars Hard-boiled practical wisdom with a warm touch
If you aren't familiar with the author, I think the best introduction would be to list the "7 Principles of Huna," as presented by King:

1. The World Is What You Think It Is.
2. There are no limits.
3. Energy Flows Where Attention Goes.
4. Now Is The Moment Of Power.
5. To Love Is To Be Happy With (someone or something).

It is so unfortunate that so many books have been written by Serge King. 2. There are no limits.
3. Energy Flows Where Attention Goes.
4. Now Is The Moment Of Power.

7. Effectiveness Is The Measure Of Truth.

Me? I like this approach. A lot. This book starts with these principles, expands on them (without ever getting too head-in-the-clouds or "new age-y"), and boils it all down to practical approaches towards greater effectiveness and happiness.

It's a shorter read than you might expect, but I didn't finish feeling like there was anything missing. If anything, he just wrote what he needed to without padding it unnecessarily.

There are enough parallels to safely place King's teachings in the 'New Thought'/'Law of Attraction' category, but I found his words to be more grounded (and less marketing-obsessed) than many of the other authors in that field.

Highly recommended for those seeking to create the life that they want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy living!, September 4, 2009

Serge Kahili King is one of the best teachers on the applications of how to transform your life and the planet by the powers of the mind. He explains the Huma teachings and their applications. He explains the seven principles of Huna and how to use them for success. He gives clear and easy steps to change and improve living related to health, wealth, and success in all areas of one's life. He does not brag on his outstanding knowledge or imply that he is a great, all-knowing person. He is humble and basic. Everyone I have given his books to, especially his material on Shamanism, are as equally addicted to his teaching and writing style as I am. Learning how to impact the planet in positive ways, improve my life style, and manage daily encounters with people who are clueless to the fact that they create their own reality, has truly made my life harmoniously peaceful and easy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hawaiian wisdom, October 19, 2009
Kumu King attempts to present tradition Hawaiian precepts in a way that is understandable to the Western minds. In my research for my novel, Wai-nani, High Chiefess of Hawaii, I read many of the early authors attempting to translate Hawaiian thinking into modern ways of understanding. King goes a step further suggesting modes of application. I found the book useful in that it helped me understand some of the basic ideas of how to achieve personal power, intention of thought and living in love and harmony with others and the environment.

King is not a native Hawaiian, though he has lived in Hawaii most of his life. He has a degree in psychology, has studied cross-cultural ties and has learned that many roads lead to the same truth. His is a thoughtful presentation that is a round up of thoughts found between the covers of modern self-help books and demonstrates how the ancient Hawaiian approach is similar in many ways. The book is worth reading because it serves as a refresher course on how to rid ourselves of self-limiting negative thoughts and how to take responsibility for what is happening in our own lives. I think this book was written with great Aloha for his readers and should be added to the library of anyone wanting a better understanding of what the word "Huna" really means.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical shamanism., April 19, 2010

I've read several of this author's book over the past 5 years. I've learned a lot from each.
This seems to be his most recent work; and is the most refined, concise, and usable of them all. I instantly began using the 7 principles of Huna which he shares early in the book; and have incorporated them into a daily practice, with immense positive benefits.
I appreciate his down to earth simplicity; and the way he easily communicates his certainty......those vibrations billow off the page, and made me willing to respect
and USE his teaching without doubts.
No time to write more now; but HIGHLY recommend this work, especially to folks who've done a lot of consciousness exploration and would like something now to firmly support them in walking their talk in our current vibrational climate of extraordinary change. I feel such essential gentleness from King as well; which gives him even more credibility for me.

This review is from: Huna: Ancient Hawaiian Secrets for Modern Living (Paperback)
Having studied Huna for 17 years, I have read every book on the subject, and always find Serge Kahili King's to be the most informative and useful. The Huna philosophy is built around seven principles that are similar to the teaching of all the world's greatest philosophies. But these seven Huna principles, especially the way they are translated from the Hawaiian and explained by Dr. King, are so simple and easy-to-apply for increasing health and happiness that I am surprised they are still a secret for most of the world. I love the way Dr. King summarizes all of his teachings in this one book - it's a must-have for anyone wanting to increase their mana, heal themselves and others, manifest their goals, and live a life of Aloha.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let the magic infuse your life, May 30, 2010
This review is from: Huna: Ancient Hawaiian Secrets for Modern Living (Paperback)
This book is in my opinion one of the best introductions to the principles of Huna, Hawaiian ancestral wisdom that gives man the means to manifest his dreams and to find the Promised Land: the one where his heart lies in peace and harmony .

The seven principles of Huna that Serge Kahili King explains to the reader are:
1 - The world is what you think it is
2 - There are no limits
3 - Energy Flows Where Attention Goes.
4 - Now Is The Moment Of Power.
5 - To Love Is To Be Happy With (someone or something).
6 - All Power Comes From Within.
7 - Effectiveness Is The Measure Of Truth.

At first sight these principles may seem simple, obvious and maybe candid. But I think they contain within them the seeds of any act of creation. And personally what I like most in the book "Hawaiian Huna Ancient Secrets for Modern Living" is the ability of the author to lead us to the heart of each of these principles as we do discover them in a practical way through a series of exercises.

Serge Kahili King believes deeply in the principles of Huna, not simply be cause he needs to believe, but because he experiences the magic of this wisdom daily. I invite you too to follow his path and to test the principles of Huna. A warning though: expect to see your reality opens up to a whole new world where everything is possible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Serge Who?, October 3, 2010
This review is from: Huna: Ancient Hawaiian Secrets for Modern Living (Paperback)
It is so unfortunate that so many books have been written by Serge King. All of them serve to perpetuate a huge myth, and if one were only just slightly diligent, curious, or responsible, the facts and truth would loom large, pointing to only one logical, rational conclusion: Huna is not a Hawaiian religion, philosophy, or spiritual practice but a new age fabrication.

The principles of Huna, the cornerstones of King's teachings, are included in this book. I can tell you that none of them are traditionally Hawaiian in origin. And you won't need to stretch your imagination when you read them to realize that they sound very much like New Age slogans. Hawaiians did not and still do not think like Westerners, which is a mistake King's predecessor, Max Freedom Long (a novelist), made as well. However, when you stop to consider that Serge King touts a PhD in Psychology, the likelihood that he made a fundamental category error between two very different cultural psychologies seems fairly unlikely. I'll leave you to ponder the implications.

If you must read this book, keep in mind that none of its claims to being culturally or philosophically Hawaiian is accurate or true. Very little of its history is true. If you would like more information, you can search around on Facebook for a group there called Huna is not Hawaiian. The people there are a wealth of knowledge.

3.0 out of 5 stars Review in progress: Huna, October 23, 2011

I was a fan of Serge's previous book, Mastering your Hidden Self, and I was happy to see a refreshed version in Kindle format. I just bought it today and am going to start reading, so this is an organic review I want to update as I progress. There's one complaint I have right out of the gate: some of the type is a little odd. For instance the first few chapters all start with a large capitalized first letter of the first word, then a newline. Also, any unusual characters like a's with lines over them don't seem to render well in Kindle format (you can see both of these phenomena in the search-inside feature)

Anyway, some folks have commented on the historical truth behind Huna's origins. Frankly I don't care. I think the human mind is a powerful system and if you can learn to work with it correctly, you can truly change your world. That's why I'm reading this.

I'll report back once I've gotten further.
