About the Author

Katherine Kreider is a recognized authority and visionary in the preservation of "The Valentine." Her first book, Valentines With Values, was just the beginning of documenting "The Valentine." Kreider's second book, One Hundred Years of Valentines, continues her quest to put on paper and in photographic essay the many series, artists, and art forms behind the Valentine. She has collected for the last 25 years. Kreider's motto is "Save the Valentine!" Kreider's efforts have been showcased in publications such as: The Wall Street Journal, The San Francisco Examiner, The Antique Journal, Inside Antiques, Antiques Today, Renningers Newspaper, Courier-Post, Auction News, and so on. Kreider has also made appearances on Joaquin Bowman's WBUX Radio Show, What's New in Antiques, Bucks County, Pennsylvania; The Ray Mansfield television show, Let's Talk Antiques, Linwood, New Jersey; Morgan Wright's Art Workshop, radio show from Boston, Massachusetts; Bloomingdale's showcase and book signing, etc. Kreider has also written for numerous national publications, such as: Collector's Showcase, Paper Pile Quaterly, Barrs Postcard News, etc. She is the valentine advisor for Schroeder's Antique Price Guide, The Flea Market Trader, and The Garage Sale & Flea Market Trader. She has lectured and exhibited portions of The Kreider Collection from the West Coast to the East Coast, from the oldest women's club west of the Mississippi, The California Women's Club, San Francisco, and The Oakdale Museum, Oakdale, California to Borders Bookstore, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; The Baron Steigel Club, Pennsylvania; The Renfrew Museum, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, just to name a few. Katherine and her husband, David, own and operate, Kingsbury Antiques, in Adamstown, Pennsylvania, located within the Stoudtburg Antique Center (better known as Black Angus), Booth #315; open every Sunday through out the year. Kingsbury Antiques has the largest offerings of antique valentines for sale in the United States. Kingsbury Antiques exhibits twice a year at the Atlantique City Antique Show, Atlantic City, New Jersey, and has a flourishing mail order business. Katherine and her husband are both members of The Ephemera Society of America, Inc. Kreider lives the valentine experience every day of her life! This gives her first-hand knowledge of the market place, market trends, and market values nationally. So when One Hundred Years of Valentines was compiled, it was done with 25 years of experience in the buying, collecting, documenting, and selling of valentines. Originally, it was a hobby, but now it is her true passion to take the documentation of the valentine as far as it can go.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: One Hundred Years of Valentines (A Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
This book is for the serious collector of vintage valentines. I bought the book wanting to look at beautiful victorian images of love, cupids, children etc., but was extremely disappointed when the cards were too small to view comfortably. If you are a collector and want to know dates and monetary value of antique Valentine Day cards, this is the book for you. There are hundreds of cards. I wanted something altogether different. Just wanted to clarify what you should expect if you purchase this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential for Valentine Collectors, September 1, 2009

This review is from: One Hundred Years of Valentines (A Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
Kreider has three books on the subject of vintage valentines. Along with the book from Robert Brenner, they are the best resources available for learning more about the companies and artists that created these objects of affection.

5.0 out of 5 stars From one of seven loving grandchildren, October 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: One Hundred Years of Valentines (A Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
This book was sent to my father Dr. John G. Scott, Jr. by my aunt Jean Stauffer, who is the oldest serviving member of the John Green Scott Sr. family. Both who are over 80 now loved this book and it has been greatly enjoyed by Dr. John G. Scott III, Charles D. Scott, James E. Scott, Myself and all of our family which extends to four more generations including John G. Scott, IV. Our grandfathter was not only a fine commercial artist with the Gibson Card Company for 30 years but was also a great landscape and protrait artist and also a respected four term state legislator and 40 year hospital administrator. Art was always his first love and the portions of this book with his work are a reflection of that love and will be treasured by all, especially by the people of Pennsylvania where he spent his entire life.
