5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome - every family should have one!
Terrific, it's all there, the kids' hopes and dreams, their passions, fears, mistakes.
Michael Francini (and his team) did a terrific job in finding such a diverse group of 100 youths around the country.
The portraits are fabulous. Each one made to fit and doing justice to the person in the picture. All telling different stories. Great light, composure, good...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I don't know about the other 99 young Americans in this book, but I know that some information about the one from Utah isn't true. How do I know this? Because I know Trapper. He told me that Michael Franzini misquoted him about some moral issues and this has been very embarrassing for him. Trapper also told me that there is some information in this book about his dad,...

We all can learn from each and everyone in the book. From who they are, what they want to be and what they have to say. Listen, try to understand and it will make you a better person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mt 16 year old loved it!, January 1, 2008
Gave this to my 16 year old son who is a "people" person. He hasn't put the book down. It shows every sterotyped teeneager in this book and we talk about the difference in them all. The importance to not judge someone by their looks is one of the greatest gifts you give to a child. Loved this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE PERFECT COFFEE TABLE BOOK, December 1, 2007

I love this book. It is so unique and interesting. I have it on my living room coffee table, and whenever I have friends over, they invariably pick it up and read a few pages. Each subject is different from the next. From fresh-faced to brothel-bound, these kids are our future. The photography is beautiful. The excerpts are short and to the point.

This book would make a great holiday gift. A ++++.

5.0 out of 5 stars A UNIQUE AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING BOOK. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, November 10, 2007
This is not just another "coffee table book". The content is well researched, polished and thought-provoking. The photography is crisp and edgy and it is a great read for parents, teens and anyone interested the future of the youth in America today.

I would highly recommend this book as a gift. It would certainly be appreciated by anyone teenage years to senior adult. 5 Stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing pictures will interest any teenager, and required reading for their parents, October 28, 2007
By
David White (Laguna Beach, CA United States) - See all my reviews
My daughter got this book from a friend who is in it. The pictures are amazing. I am blown away!

This book has beautiful photographs, interesting and easy to read profiles of 100 American teenagers. It is a snapshot of what it feels like growing up in America today. Some of them will make you laugh or smirk or shake your head. Some will shock you, frighten you, hit you like a brainfreeze. Others will fill you with optimism or rage.

There are familiar teens-- varsity athletes, skaters, goths, virgins and tramps-- and lots of kids who defy simple labels. An archery hunter bagging a moose, a girl who's a formula one racer, a boy killed in a driveby shooting. You can learn something from each picture, or you can just admire how cool they look.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Hundred Young Americans, January 17, 2008

One Hundred Young Americans is an eye-opener for me. I consider myself pretty connected with the youth of today but after reading this beautifully published piece, my perspective has broadened immensely. Franzini's lens captures the emotions, aspirations, and dreams of his subjects with vivid and detailed artfulness. The images are provocative and many times playful. Though I learned and got reaquainted with today's young people through Franzini's eyes, I almost feel like I personally knew many of these kids when I was in high school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Work, December 30, 2007
This book really disects such an interesting cross sections of young lives and gives great insight to the challenges that they are out there living. Their existence that many of us " adults " may take for granted. The burdens, hopes fears and sheer existence of their lives are tolled in ways not imaginable to those of us who don't live on Myspace or earn a steady paycheck. Well documented, beautifully photographed and a great book to own.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing book for anyone, December 26, 2007
By

This book was a last minute gift me sister picked up for me for Christmas, and I couldn't be happier with it
It has easily ranked in my top three Christmas gifts this year
The reason I was interested in this book was because I am very into portrait photography and trying to capture a person's personality in a photograph. And don't get me wrong, this book definitely did that. But it was more than that.
For the first time, I finally got to see how teenagers all across the country live.
I have lived all seventeen years of my life in sheltered suburban Long Island, and this book exposed me to people of all walks of life.
Whether it be a 14 year old mother in California or a devout christian in Massachusetts, I was finally offered a glimpse into the world of teenagers like me outside of my little social world.
Suddenly, I found myself wanting to know everything about these people. Reading their stories and then looking into their eyes. By the time I finished I felt like I knew each and every one of them.
It took me an hour to finish this book, and that was the hour I snuck away from my family before Christmas dinner. I just had to finish it.
This book would make an amazing gift to anyone. Budding photographers, aspiring journalists, teenagers, parents of teenagers....
I strongly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars important and real, November 12, 2007

Adults never want to confront the reality of the emotions and problems, the pain and joy teenagers go through. They would rather create their own fantasies of airbrushed, perfect boys and girls instead of remembering what they were like and how they felt. This book tells the unpolished truth in full color. I can only imagine that youth will devour this. Hopefully, it will show up in school libraries around the country because the stories inside are so necessary (for adults too). Great book, great portraits, great job at snapshotting the elusive American teen in all shapes, sizes and stripes.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST READ!!, November 6, 2009
I am youth pastor/photographer so naturally, this book drew me in like a magnet! It's incredibly written, unapologetically real and a must read for anyone who has a teenager in their lives. It's going to be a required read for all of our youth staff volunteers.
